Nice 4x4 without leather seats

Right first world problem but also serious... need a new car as daughter keeps being sick, I suspect partly due to leather seats as they used to make me sick at her age. I didn't even want leather seats this time but had no choice! So my Q is is there such a thing as a nice (ideally German) 4 x 4 that does not have leather seats??? Does any one have one?? Do you want to sell me it!

So far I've looked at Auto trader for used as well as trying to spec new on Merc, Volkswagen and Volvo websites - they only offer leather.

Also any travel sickness tips greatly appreciated!

At least leather is easier to clean than fabric. I cover my back seat with a waterproof cover which protects the seat from all sorts! That way I can have the car I want.

JazzyGG · 29/07/2019 22:25

I know I agree but I swear it's making her sick. The irony that fabric would be more difficult to clean!

Not trying to be funny but would putting a throw over the seat maybe help?

howtotrainyourdragqueen · 29/07/2019 22:27

I have to ask how a leather car seat makes you sick?

bigshiplittleboat · 29/07/2019 22:28

Have you looked at a Skoda? We have a Yeti (which isn't a 4x4 but is built like one) with fabric seats

ChloeR81 · 29/07/2019 22:29

I used to have a Jaguar F-Pace and loved it, now have the smaller Jaguar E-Pace (the size of a Range Rover Evoke) and love that too. Pretty sure they come without leather seats...(mine has leather seats but I’m sure it’s an option).

butterry · 29/07/2019 22:30

Do you drive a manual? I have recently discovered after changing to an automatic that I no longer get car sickness.

JazzyGG · 29/07/2019 22:30

Leather is well known for making people car sick. I can cover up with throws etc but it won't stop it and isn't fair to her.

Travel sickness caused by leather seats?

How? Is this a thing?

Shoppingwithmother · 29/07/2019 22:31

I could understand someone associating old vinyl seats with being sick (hot, sticky, etc) but I don’t know why leather would?

JazzyGG · 29/07/2019 22:31

@butterry no we have 2 x autos both leather

@Shoppingwithmother it's the smell it gives off, I know because it still gets me sometimes I can tell as soon as I sit in a leather car, I'm better driving than being a passenger.

Found a few posts on various forums from people saying it can cause it.

Hope you find something Op.

A basic Audi Q3 (SE) appears to come with cloth seats.

I think it would be only the smaller German SUVs that could come without leather - once you go bigger it is standard even at entry level I think.

Shoppingwithmother · 29/07/2019 22:43

Looking at it, it appears you can also get the Audi Q5 in cloth in the standard (lower than SE) spec and the same in a Q7.

pongopig · 29/07/2019 22:45

A lot of leather looking seats aren’t real leather e.g only ‘Artico leather’ used in Mercedes suvs

MaMaMaMySharona · 29/07/2019 22:45

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, any version but the 4

butterry · 29/07/2019 22:47

We have a Honda 4x4 CRV, a lower spec would not have leather

Shoppingwithmother · 29/07/2019 22:50

In a BMW you can only get an X1 without leather, nothing larger.

There will not be many cars in these specs around though, so you’d have to have a new one made to your spec.

JazzyGG · 29/07/2019 22:53

@Shoppingwithmother where did you see that on Q5 and Q7 I couldn't find that?

OP posts:
namestar · 29/07/2019 22:54

I have a 2018 BMW X1 with cloth seats.

snowballer · 29/07/2019 22:56

Volvo XC60 in the SE spec is fabric seats

Lonelykettleshed · 29/07/2019 22:59

Would it make sense to hire a car with fabric seats for a couple of weeks to see if it helps? Changing the car will be futile if that's not the cause.

JazzyGG · 29/07/2019 23:01

@namestar thank you for the gift of the word cloth - I was searching fabric - cloth is a massive help!

The Tesla Model X has pleather seats. Californian vegans.
