Is this healthy eating?

Would you consider this a healthy day of eating for a mid 20s female, do a lot of walking not other exercise

Breakfast: small piece of wholewheat bread with 1/4 of smashed avocado on top

Lunch: shop bought egg and cress sandwich

Dinner: small jacket potato with hummus (no butter) big salad of green leaves, a few olives and boiled egg

Dessert: Greek yog and blueberries.

Drinks: water, two cups of coffee, one cup of tea - with milk no sugar

If not how can I make healthier? I am a veggie btw

Sounds healthy but the only thing I’d say is watch carbs. That’s 3 slices of bread and a potato. Not sure how many calories it totals?
Hummus and avocados have lots of calories but it’s good fat.

Archie1411 · 28/07/2019 17:40

How can you be veggie if you eat eggs?

coffeeplease16 · 28/07/2019 17:42

Most veggie eat eggs - vegans don’t :)

Not a lot of variety in the veg there. I’d spice up that green salad with all sorts of veg plus a sprinkle of seeds for crunch and essential fats. Maybe a bit of fruit? An apple or whatever. Seems a bit light in calories too. I love soups so you could get fresh store bought or make your own. Do you eat cheese? Add some of that the days you don’t eat yoghurt.
You could download something like MyFitnessPal app (it’s not just for losing weight) as you can input all your foods and it will give you not only a calories count but the macros too. And I think the vitamin content! You can then see what you need to add (more protein or whatever).

How can you be veggie if you eat eggs?

That didn't take long😂
Veggie - vegetarian

Aquamarine1029 · 28/07/2019 17:44

I think you should research if you're getting enough vitamins and nutrients like calcium, potassium, etc. I would also up your vegetable intake. Salad greens have very little nutritional value.

hormonesorDHbeingadick · 28/07/2019 17:44

Most veggies eat egg.

Try increasing your veg and fruit in take.

BlueSkiesLies · 28/07/2019 17:44

@Archie1411 because she says she is a vegetarian not a vegan...

TheFridgeRaider · 28/07/2019 17:46

I agree with pp. Add different veggies so you have good variety. I have to say that I personally like protein in a morning so would have a toast with bit of butter and egg (taken from the dinner) rather than avo. Feels like it gives me more energy.

Verily1 · 28/07/2019 17:47

Looks healthy to me but I’m quite unhealthy!

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 28/07/2019 17:48

I'd swap the shop bought sandwich for a salad with with some grains and lentils in. And I'd swap the avocado for pretty much anything else because they are 🤮

floppybit · 28/07/2019 17:48

How about a smokey sweet potato and black bean chilli with brown rice, or any stews with plenty of veg and pulses.

Conkeee · 28/07/2019 17:49

Stick with the carbs. You need carbs. If you cut out carbs you’re eating unhealthy

coffeeplease16 · 28/07/2019 17:49

Thanks everyone! Think I do need to be a bit more creative, I have the same dinner probably most days

Also get given a lunch allowance at work so struggle to find things to eat out which I can eat and are relatively okay

BillieEilish · 28/07/2019 17:51

You need more veggies and fruit. That's not 5 a day.

Aquamarine1029 · 28/07/2019 17:51

For dinner, try roasting a gorgeous selection of veggies with olive oil, herbs, and garlic. Serve over your favourite pasta. Simple and delicious.

Lozzy25 · 28/07/2019 17:51

It looks pretty good! All I would say is maybe a bit too much bread, a salad would be a good idea for lunch Smile I'm a pescatarian and today I have eaten...

Breakfast: porridge with half water half cashew milk +banana

Lunch: vegetable and lentil soup with carrot/pepper sticks with hummus + a pear

Dinner will be: heck veggie sausages, mashed potato with cabbage and peas

coffeeplease16 · 28/07/2019 17:53

@Aquamarine1029 think I will have this tomorrow! Sounds delicious

Ok generally except the shop bought sandwich will likely be full of junk. I would only eat that when no other option and def not every day.
Also it looks a bit low in protein, but otherwise reasonable.

Sunshine1239 · 28/07/2019 17:55

What you’re eating is fine it’s just not a lot - sandwich on its own wouldnt fill me at all! I’d need fruit, yoghurt or chocolate crisps etc too

Breakfast is small too - you could eat less bread and more protein and salad for similar calories

herculepoirot2 · 28/07/2019 17:55

I don’t think that’s more than 1,000 calories. Unless you are trying to lose weight that’s not enough food.

coffeeplease16 · 28/07/2019 17:56

Do you reckon any shop or cafe prepacked lunch - Pret for example is just full of shit?

OP posts:
SoSoHot · 28/07/2019 17:58

Also doesn’t look like enough fruit and veggies. 5-a-day was actually supposed to be 10-a-day. But when deciding the right pitch it was felt that 10-a-day would be too unachievable for most of the public in this country as people eat so little fruit and veg. But actually we should really all be aiming for 10-a-day.

SoSoHot · 28/07/2019 17:59

All shop bought sandwiches are too high in salt and sugar. Even the better ones with less ingredients.

coffeeplease16 · 28/07/2019 18:00

I find it all a bit overwhelming - having five a day but not too much sugar, some fat but not too much, limit process foods, not too many carbs!!! Lots of protein - I don’t know how to fit it all in
