Is this healthy eating?

Would you consider this a healthy day of eating for a mid 20s female, do a lot of walking not other exercise

Breakfast: small piece of wholewheat bread with 1/4 of smashed avocado on top

Lunch: shop bought egg and cress sandwich

Dinner: small jacket potato with hummus (no butter) big salad of green leaves, a few olives and boiled egg

Dessert: Greek yog and blueberries.

Drinks: water, two cups of coffee, one cup of tea - with milk no sugar

If not how can I make healthier? I am a veggie btw

Are you trying to lose weight OP? I ask kindly as you say you are mid 20's and veggie, but you don't really eat veggies. A quarter of an avocado is not a 'portion' you should be having minimum 5, ideally 10.

Yes, café pre packed stuff is full of preservatives.

coffeeplease16 · 28/07/2019 18:02

@BillieEilish you raise a good point! I should defo try and eat more veggies. I am losing weight eating this diet, which is want I want to do but worry it isn’t necessary nutritionally complete

Is that really enough food? I eat twice that and am a normal weight.
I would add another 3 (or more) portions of fruit/veg as you are barely scraping 2 there.
Other than that I think the proportions of fat/carb/protein are right and there's nothing sweet which is good.

Sunflower20 · 28/07/2019 18:02

I would ditch the shop bought sandwich, I know someone who makes sandwiches, he said he would never eat one himself. It's not healthy at all.
Otherwise ok but consider adding in more fruit, veg and protein.

coffeeplease16 · 28/07/2019 18:02

My lunch is paid for everyday so reluctant to to pack my own! But maybe a sacrifice I will have to make

OP posts:
herculepoirot2 · 28/07/2019 18:05

Are you actually overweight, OP?

sackrifice · 28/07/2019 18:06

If your lunch is paid for, get something other than a sandwich.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 28/07/2019 18:07

If you get a lunch allowance lots of independent sandwich shops now do jacket potatoes with salad we have 2 within 5mins of work and it's a small town, its £3.50 with one topping and a ton of salad loads salad options comes with no dressing.

Switch all carbs to wholemeal versions as a healthier option dont cut carbs though

coffeeplease16 · 28/07/2019 18:07

Yes I’m overweight by 1.5 stone according to BMI calculator. I do have a bit of a strange relationship with food though if that’s what your hinting at @hercule

OP posts:
herculepoirot2 · 28/07/2019 18:10

It is. I just think people ought to be careful about telling you yes, sure, that’s healthy eating, when actually you’re obviously surviving on as little food as possible. Correct?

And I say this kindly. I am fat.

Deadlysinner · 28/07/2019 18:11

You definitely need to try some different protein sources, maybe a bean chilli or lentil dahl. I'd also add some nuts or fruit or veg as snacks.

Brian9600 · 28/07/2019 18:12

It’s all a bit meagre and low in fruit and veg. Could you add some tomatoes at breakfast, fruit with lunch? Swap the sandwich for a salad of quinoa or brown rice (or another grain you like) with chopped veg and herbs. For dinner ideas I recommend Anna Jones’s books.

skybluee · 28/07/2019 18:12

For me I'd worry that was too restrictive. You want to lose weight slowly but consistently... it gives you a better chance of success.

coffeeplease16 · 28/07/2019 18:13

@hercule I’m eating around 1300 kcal a day which is what is recommended to loose 2lbs a week. But it’s difficult to still eat healthy and get all nutrients in

OP posts:
BritWifeinUSA · 28/07/2019 18:14

I thought more than 1 egg a day was not recommended as one egg alone has 62% of your daily cholesterol requirement.

BillieEilish · 28/07/2019 18:14

OP, I am in my 40's, menopausal and drink too much so totally different to you Grin

However, I am slim and relatively healthy. Recently I have been checking up on nutrition as (se above) and have a young daughter. It seems red pepper is one of the most nutritionally great things you can have.

Try adding that your salads and a handful of Almonds for your protein and calcium. You only need a few a day. (Am also veggie) 1/4 inch of cucumber would be another portion and easy to add!

Roasted veggies as per pp are a good idea in salads/pasta, or with cous cous.

You're doing very well with the boiled egg and greek yogurt!

coffeeplease16 · 28/07/2019 18:15

I’m loosing around 2-3lbs a week which doesn’t seem to extreme to me?

OP posts:
Hermagsjesty · 28/07/2019 18:15

Could you find somewhere local to work that does jacket potatoes? Then you could have your jacket potato at lunch and add a bit more varieties to your dinners. You definitely need more fruit and veg. Also maybe either beans or scrambled egg and roast tomatoes on your toast at breakfast to up your protein? I’m veggie too and I don’t think your current diet is likely to be meeting all your nutritional needs (I eat quite a lot more than that!! Not currently trying to lose weight though)

Hairwizard · 28/07/2019 18:16

Baked sweet potato with cottage cheese is awesome. Extra nutrients in sweet potato too.
Make a smoothie with natural yogurt, avocado, spinach, frozen berries and scoop of protein powder. I like this for breakfast sometimes.

coffeeplease16 · 28/07/2019 18:16

See this is what I mean like the egg thing @BritWifeinUSA and this isn’t in anyway directed at you.. but there is SO MUCH advice that it gets confusing how you should actually eat

OP posts:
OccasionalNachos · 28/07/2019 18:17

Something like a tofu stir fry for dinner would up your protein & veg content quite a lot

herculepoirot2 · 28/07/2019 18:17

I might be wrong but that menu doesn’t look like 1,300 calories to me. More like 800.

BillieEilish · 28/07/2019 18:19

BritWife I believe for veggies, an egg a day/every two days is a perfect and complete protein, providing all the B vitamins she needs.

She eats no meat so cholesterol is less of an issue if she ups the veg intake. In her mid 20's she needs these B vits.

But I could be wrong. It's what my doctor told me though.

PooWillyBumBum · 28/07/2019 18:19

Do you have an M and S near you? They have some nice small (but very filling) veggie salads in rectangular packages. That and some fruit would up your veg/fruit portions. Or maybe switch breakfast for a smoothie with some spinach in it?

I think generally it looks fine though!

TheFridgeRaider · 28/07/2019 18:21

The advice I always hear is 3 eggs, not 1.
