Is this healthy eating?

Would you consider this a healthy day of eating for a mid 20s female, do a lot of walking not other exercise

Breakfast: small piece of wholewheat bread with 1/4 of smashed avocado on top

Lunch: shop bought egg and cress sandwich

Dinner: small jacket potato with hummus (no butter) big salad of green leaves, a few olives and boiled egg

Dessert: Greek yog and blueberries.

Drinks: water, two cups of coffee, one cup of tea - with milk no sugar

If not how can I make healthier? I am a veggie btw

Oh yes, great idea PP, roast chopped up sweet potato and add that to your salad, or look up Jamie Oliver Veggie chili with sweet potato. Wonderful and will last you ages!

I thought more than 1 egg a day was not recommended as one egg alone has 62% of your daily cholesterol requirement.

This hasn’t been advice for about 20 years.

Eggs are one of the few food sources of vitamin D.

Roasted veg lasagne, lentil & veg curry with rice or naan, soups and stews, veg paella, veg stir fry with noodles... spices, herbs, garlic, onions, ginger, paprika etc will make any dull veggies taste yummy and all good for you

Your biggest problem is having same dinner most days.
If you have different dinners you will get better variation.
Same with breakfast.
Toast and egg or bit of smoked salmon etc. Keep changing things.

OP if you need to use the lunch allowance, buy drink/milkshake/smoothie or a salad, pasta, fruit pot or soup and take your own snacks or sandwich to bump it up a bit

Sounds ok but not enough calories in my opinion. Breakfast in particular seems on the small side and it's meant to be the most important meal of the day (although I understand not everyone has much of an appetite first thing).

I wouldn't cut carbs if I were you. Complex carbs are healthy and important.

Even buying a punnet of cherry tomatoes to add to your food and a couple of pieces of fruit will make a huge difference.

I think it sounds restrictive and a bit boring, which doesn't normally mean sustainable. I eat twice that and am middle of normal BMI. I never diet as a point of principle.

There is a lot of advice around and a lot is contradictory. So what I live by is everything in moderation.

I'm a pescatarian and love fruit and veg so get plenty of that. Partial to a treat so moderate that a bit.

My advice would be; don't get too bogged down in thinking about your diet. It makes you crave food more. Increase your exercise. Make small changes at a time. Finally, work through any issues you have with food.

I think it’s pretty healthy! You might try doing a weekly meal plan so you don’t end up having a jacket potato everyday. Try something like a savoury couscous with lots of veg or a veggie curry with rice one day

I’m confused by the posts about sandwiches- what else do you think is in them apart from the sandwich ingredients and bread? Arsenic?

OP I don’t think you can judge healthy eating on one days food. It looks ok, not much food really, but it’s mainly about what you eat over the course of months and years, that’s what makes an impact on your physical health

No everything you describe is clearly bad for you - wholewheat bread? Avacado? Blueberries??? All very unhealthy obviously Hmm

Is that 1.5 stone above the weight that gives you a bmi of 25?

I’d still be hungry and I agree with everyone else about the lack of vegetables.

@PixieLumos yes but you can eat ‘healthy foods’ and still not be getting all the nutrients you need as several other posters have pointed out... And I’ve taken plenty of useful dinner ideas away from this post as well as advice

Sounds healthy to me OP. Watch the bread though. If I have toast in the morning I tend to avoid it at lunch. Perhaps a wholegrain rice or quinoa salad instead? More beans and pulses? I love a chickpea salad. Giving you protein and carbs together.

Definitely try using My Fitness Pal, works on most devices. When looking for foods, add 'USDA'. 1 kg a week is a lot to lose, and you may find it unsustainable, you body will probably think you're starving it and will panic stock!

Sorry for asking, lots of posters with eating disorders post here.

I’d focus on getting 5 a day with lots of protein, measured carbs and fat. Exercise as much as you can.

How about a feta , watermelon and mint salad with rye bread at lunch? Get a daily apple, they are so good for you. Porridge at breakfast will keep you going and add berries to it. Fill half your plate with veg at dinner.

I started avoid bread and white potatoes. Maybe swap the potato for a sweet potato? Have avocado with egg and spinach?

Have you tried quinoa? Peppers, veggie green thai curry is a good one

I know you said you have a lunch allowance but something I've found SO useful in the past is to make double portion of something healthy for dinner and then have it for lunch the day after the day after if that makes sense?

So dinner Monday is lunch on Wednesday - means it's nice and easy preparation time and you can stick to healthy meals you know you like. That way it doesn't get so boring compared to eating the same lunch as dinner the previous night.

I try and do this with dishes that are packed with loads of veggies eg veggie moussaka / lasagne / ratatouille. Some can be frozen in between but lots will be ok to just pop in the fridge.

Shop bought sarnies are full of a lot of rubbish even though they dress themselves up as healthy sometimes - maybe limit yourself to two of them a week and the other days have delicious homemade double dishes.

Ooh also breakfast wise leftovers frittata is good - couple of eggs and any leftover veggies etc that will go to waste otherwise. Mix in some goats cheese for some extra flavour, season well.

Mmm I'm hungry now!

DD is vegetarian, one of her favourites is a lentil bolognaise. Use tinned green lentils for speed and I use wholewheat spaghetti. The whole family eat it and it's as good as mince for us. I actually prefer it.
