On the washing - it's about three inches long and it's eating a wasp

Thanks all - I know (logically) that it's just a dragonfly - but I've never seen one eating a wasp before either.

Brown hawker. The largest of dragonflies but pretty common. They’re known to eat bees as well as wasps as they’re very territorial and aggressive

Wasps eat pests and greenfly, so not really.

It is a dragonfly and that is what they do.. hunt, in flight, and land and eat what they caught.

As long as you don't poke your finger in the bitey end, you'll be fine.

The other day my cat came in making an awful racket with what looked like a winged scorpion in her mouth. Turned out to be a giant dragonfly. Turns out the long bit of their body can be curled up like a scorpion 😳

I tried to put a bowl over it but it was bigger than the bowl. DH had to deal with it.
