Why has this spider shrunk? LIGHTHEARTED

Ok, this might possibly be one of the most ridiculous threads. Confused

3 days ago this spider moved into my shelf. It was bloody huge for a spindly. It was there last night (and the days before) - came down this morning and it has shrunk. I'm sure of it. It could be a different spider, but there is no sign of the large one and it had been there for a few days.

Disclaimer: I don't usually have insects in my kitchen. I am scared of spiders and DP hasn't yet removed it.

Also - I've had a very boring weekend. Probably why I'm obsessing over this. Hmm

I have no advice re - The Mystery of the Shrinking Arachnid I just wanted to say I too, am finding a fair few spindly bastards in my kitchen cupboards aswell. Must be their favourite hang out.

It’s been fasting.

She has given birth.

Is that dark spot near the spider a massive poo? Spider has IBS and terrible bloating and has achieved relief in your cupboard.

It’s a different spider.

ElfridaEtAl · 28/07/2019 13:47

She has given birth

That's a terrifying thought.

itscallednickingbentcoppers · 28/07/2019 13:50

There's spiders everywhere in my house. DH will not let me evict them from their homes Confused

Have you got confused by the perspective in the cupboard and it's actually further away into the cupboard? 😂

I reckon it's an amorous male and the first one was a female (they're larger in spiders aren't they?) and she's got narked about a cocklodger moving in and gone?

QuinoaWest · 28/07/2019 13:55

"...has achieved relief in your cupboard"

Properly made me laugh, that.

pointythings · 28/07/2019 13:56

It accidentally got into your washing machine on a hot programme and miraculously survived.

QuestionableMouse · 28/07/2019 13:58

That's the sort of spider that eats other spiders. It's eaten the big spider.

fortheloveofPete · 28/07/2019 14:02

It's on a diet and has successfully lost 1/8oz. Well done Spindly!

starfishcoffee · 28/07/2019 15:53

She has given birth

Please don't say such things. Envy

When spiders want to hide, they can fold their legs to look inconspicuous.
starfishcoffee has frightened the spider. Shame on you!

Mauhea · 28/07/2019 19:06

I had a spindly in my bathroom for a few months! Named it Slenderman. I ususally can't stand spiders but this one was very chill so I gave it a chance on the agreement that it stayed under the sink until I went to bed. All went very well until I broke my word and went to the loo at 3am - jumped out of my skin when I spotted it staring at me from the ceiling totally opposite where it usually hung out!

Like yours it would sometimes look huge and ridiculous bobbing across its web. Other times it looked dinky and small. Sadly it totally disappeared a few weeks ago and I actually sort of miss it!

Bunnybigears · 28/07/2019 19:12

Because it cant open your jars of food and is wasting away?

starfishcoffee · 28/07/2019 20:54

@OnlyaMan

Oh no! I did get the peanut butter from there this morning. In my mind I was making DS some toast. The spider clearly thought this was a malicious attack on her new home.

@Bunnybigears

Maybe this spider was indeed too smart for its own good. Sad
