To think my DH is an absolute Trooper!!!

I see so many threads on here about DH’s/DP’s behaving badly and I’ve written one or two myself. But now my DH deserves a positive post. (If it’s not your thing feel free to not read on).

He is being an absolute TROOPER!

I’m signed off with early pregnancy nausea. Have pretty much every symptom going and feel miserable.
Whilst struggling through work I was irritable, short tempered and quite mean (obviously struggling). He was NOTHING but kind, patient and compassionate.

At the Dr’s he held my hand whilst I sobbed in front of an alarmed looking Male GP!

Now I’m at home, cuddling a bucket 75% of the day and doing ABSOLOUTLEY nothing. Despite being in a gruelling part of his own work rota (hospital DR) he’s just doing EVERYTHING without being asked or reminded.
He comes home from night shifts and stops at the supermarket, loads the washer, folds the clean laundry and fills/empties the dishwasher!
He takes the bin out and changes the litter box, wipes down the sides and sorts the recylcing. Our cat got D&V in the heat- he dealt with it ALL and ran to the vets.

AND on top of that he just keeps asking how I’m feeling and if there’s anything else he can do.

He’s just got home and I warmed up a ready meal for him as a ‘thanks’ (cooking is beyond me atm). I feel utterly gross and lazy atm and he just keeps telling me how amazing my baby growing is and I should give myself credit. I know this should be how every DH behaves when you’re struggling with pregnancy symptoms but when I opened the dishwasher this morning to load it and found that DH had done it and ran it through the night...clean sparkly pots. I cried 😂😭

*We usually split housework about 70/30 as he works a lot more hours than I do and commutes further.

Awwww what a lovely thread to read for a change! Sounds like you've got yourself an absolute diamond there!!

Really hoping you feel better soon! I had a horrific pregnancy so I can totally empathise but got my gorgeous little girl now and it was so worth every second!! Xx

Cmagic7 · 28/07/2019 09:58

Yay for amazing husbands! Mine was the same when I was dog-tired and useless pregnant. We should count ourselves lucky OP.

Lovemenorca · 28/07/2019 09:59

Sounds lovely

But let’s not over egg it. There’s only two adults here, so doing laundry, grocery shopping, cooking etc - is not what i would regard as particularly onerous!

This was mine during my truly awful pregnancy (4 months of crippling nausea followed by 5 months of being sick all night). He turned into a pretty amazing Dad too, not one of these who this maternity leave means months of time for Mum to look after the baby and Dad to check out of family life because use 'he works'.

gonewiththepotter · 28/07/2019 10:05

@user146

I know I’m very lucky. I told him how grateful I was this morning and he sweetly deflected it back to how well I’m coping with all these symptoms.

Think I’m feeling it more this morning as spent all last night binge watching 16 and pregnant UK (had ran out or stuff to watch) and there were all of these young women (in much more challenging life situations) most with little/unreliable support from partners and I just thought WOW I am so lucky to have the situation/ DH support that I do and they are SO VERY STRONG to be doing everything on their own!! Massive respect to those women who don’t have support for whatever reason.

I’m also quite hormonal atm...which you’ve probably guessed 😂🙈

Your post is lovely to read.Thats what loving and caring about someone is all about. What a star. Hope you’re feeling better soon.

Actionhasmagic · 28/07/2019 10:06

Awesome!!!

Zebraaa · 28/07/2019 10:06

Yay for a non man hating thread Wink

Wait for someone to come and spoil it though 😂

Dieu · 28/07/2019 10:09

You're very lucky. My ex wouldn't have behaved like that, at least not to the same extent of loveliness and decency.

bridgetjones1 · 28/07/2019 10:09

@Zebraaa I was just thinking the same 😂😂

TheoriginalLEM · 28/07/2019 10:11

What a star - and hospital Dr too? Respect! Those guys work hard (as do the nurses and other staff) - i have seen the absolute bedlam an A&E department is on a night shift. I was stressed just visiting! Please say thankyou to your lovely DH for what he does. I'm quite frankly surprised he can do more than fall into bed after a night shift

But cut yourself some slack too - you are growing a person!! Hopefully the nausea will abate soon.

SomeAfternoonDelight · 28/07/2019 10:12

Lovely to read OP! We need more of this shit!

billy1966 · 28/07/2019 10:16

Lovely to read OP.
Poor you suffering so much.
There are absolutely loads of wonderful men out there.
I'm married to one for nearly 30 years.

cattaxi · 28/07/2019 10:19

That’s lovely! And it’s nice to see a positive dog thread for a change.
I hope you feel better soon @gonewiththepotter - I had horrible hyperemesis for 3 months at the beginning of this year. My dh was also a total trooper. Took over all the housework & looking after our other 2 whilst working full time without any complaint.

cattaxi · 28/07/2019 10:20

*dh thread - NOT dog thread! I really should preview 😂

gonewiththepotter · 28/07/2019 10:25

Not to mention (and this is a bit more personal) but in the last few weeks I’ve not wanted to be touched.

(One of my symptoms is cervical stabbing pains which combined with the nausea...not sexy)

And DH (and bloody rightly so but still) has not made one single comment/advance/insinuation NOTHING!
Has not asked ‘how long do you think it’ll be’ or shown a ounce of frustration.

I asked him last night before he went to work ‘if he still fancied me’ (silly I know but I’m hormonal and feel like a total potato).

He earnestly replief ‘Ofc I do but my d* is pretty low down on our list of priorities. When you’re feeling up to it you’ll tell me 😂’

I know this should be normal Male behaviour but I know from reading other posts that it’s not always. I feel completely respected and I’m so grateful for that!

@TheoriginalLEM

I think he’s a bit of a super hero (as I do all of our emergency services) but one of the things that first really attracted me to him whilst dating was when I said ‘oh wow you Dr’s such challenging jobs I respect what you do so much’ he immediately told me how hard nurses have it and how Dr’s rely on them so much and they’re horribly under paid...etc.

I remember sitting on like our 3/4th date and thinking 😊 you’re a nice guy, it’s not all about you, I like that! Could have just taken the praise and ran with it! But no you give credit where it’s due ❤️

StaplesCorner · 28/07/2019 10:31

I'm glad you are getting the treatment that all pregnant mums deserve OP. It makes me a bit sad reading it as my H was a bastard from the get go; but then I just pray my DDs end up with a real man like yours Flowers for you and baby (and DH!)

StaplesCorner · 28/07/2019 10:34

@SomeAfternoonDelight Lovely to read OP! We need more of this shit! I make you fucking right. THIS needs to be the norm, maybe if we read about it, we will accept it and then maybe men will too!

@cattaxi And it’s nice to see a positive dog thread for a change actually my dog's a bit of a twat too. Means well though.

ChrisPrattsFace · 28/07/2019 10:45

This is my DH too OP.
We’ve always been a household where I do more, because I genuinely enjoy it but when I was signed off with severe hyperemesis he done absolutely everything.
I love reading about other people’s kind/helpful DHs because I find myself very lucky to have mine.
And congratulations - even if you’re sick!

EdWinchester · 28/07/2019 11:04

My dh does everything and puts himself last in our family. So far today he's emptied the dishwasher, walked the dog, done 3 loads of washing, given the dog a bath, made butter (as we had run out), vacuumed his car and he is now ironing.

I have applied fake tan Grin

MN can be a very bleak place with all the dreadful blokes we read about. My dh is fab, but tbh, most of my friends are married to kind and domesticated men too.

ThomasFurious · 28/07/2019 11:10

Lovely post Smile

Orangecake123 · 28/07/2019 11:10

Aww this was lovely to read.

WeLoveToBoogieOnASaturdayNight · 28/07/2019 11:18

Awww. How lovely.
Sorry you're feeling crap, but it's allowed you to see
just how fabulous your DH truly is!

(Mine's a keeper, too!)

btw -- even after you're feeling better, be sure that he
continues to do the litter box. You don't go near it.
You probably already know this, but just in case...
