To think my DH is an absolute Trooper!!!

gonewiththepotter · 28/07/2019 09:54

I see so many threads on here about DH’s/DP’s behaving badly and I’ve written one or two myself. But now my DH deserves a positive post. (If it’s not your thing feel free to not read on).

He is being an absolute TROOPER!

I’m signed off with early pregnancy nausea. Have pretty much every symptom going and feel miserable.
Whilst struggling through work I was irritable, short tempered and quite mean (obviously struggling). He was NOTHING but kind, patient and compassionate.

At the Dr’s he held my hand whilst I sobbed in front of an alarmed looking Male GP!

Now I’m at home, cuddling a bucket 75% of the day and doing ABSOLOUTLEY nothing. Despite being in a gruelling part of his own work rota (hospital DR) he’s just doing EVERYTHING without being asked or reminded.
He comes home from night shifts and stops at the supermarket, loads the washer, folds the clean laundry and fills/empties the dishwasher!
He takes the bin out and changes the litter box, wipes down the sides and sorts the recylcing. Our cat got D&V in the heat- he dealt with it ALL and ran to the vets.

AND on top of that he just keeps asking how I’m feeling and if there’s anything else he can do.

He’s just got home and I warmed up a ready meal for him as a ‘thanks’ (cooking is beyond me atm). I feel utterly gross and lazy atm and he just keeps telling me how amazing my baby growing is and I should give myself credit. I know this should be how every DH behaves when you’re struggling with pregnancy symptoms but when I opened the dishwasher this morning to load it and found that DH had done it and ran it through the night...clean sparkly pots. I cried 😂😭

*We usually split housework about 70/30 as he works a lot more hours than I do and commutes further.

I’m loving hearing the positive stories from others about their DH’s ❤️

Glad to know it’s not just mine.

Mine is currently sleeping off his night shift - spooning our cat who thinks he’s the best person in the world and EXCLUSIVLEY naps with him!

Don't be so naive OP

He's having sex with that cat but you're too blind to see it. Pack his bags and throw them on the driveway ( your DH's bags - not the cat's )

If you don't have a driveway, just buy a house that does!!

gonewiththepotter · 28/07/2019 13:31

@Worral

😂😂😂🙈 that made me giggle. Actually think packing my cats bags would be harder to pack. He’s very spoilt. We’ve got two large climbing frames which would have to shipped to a forwarding addresss!

In fairness I think the cat would be down for an affair! Never seen a pet love anyone more than he does my DH!

Fabulous thread....and I hope you feel better soon xx

My dh is also amazing, a truly good kind man. When I was pregnant my mum described him as being like an old hen with a chick, the way he was constantly looking after me 😁😁😁

WorraLiberty · 28/07/2019 13:49

As a fellow owner of a spoilt cat, I feel your pain Grin

IvanaPee · 28/07/2019 14:07

@pepperpot99 literally nobody is impressed by or interested in your pedantry (read: wankery). HTH.

@gonewiththepotter my cat is called McGonagall. I feel like you’d appreciate that name! Grin

siring1 · 28/07/2019 14:26

I think an vary large number of men are like this but that does'nt fit the narrative that some people's subscribe too.

pepperpot99 · 28/07/2019 15:11

I'm glad to hear it IvanaPee I 'd hate to think people were actually spending their precious minutes commenting on my unimpressive posts Grin. Oh, wait.... Wink. I'll take your attentions to my comments as a compliment. Or should that be complement....?

sashh · 29/07/2019 06:50

I nominate OP's husband for a Norman Award.

TescoValueUserName · 29/07/2019 07:21

This has been a lovely thread to read. While I was pregnant and also dealing with a long term health condition I caught my now ex on online dating sites. His excuse was that he was getting home from work to find the washing up not done and I had let myself go a bit. At times mumsnet can make you think that there are no good men out there, it's lovely to read about the good ones!

B00kworm86 · 29/07/2019 07:31

Aw OP, that's wonderful! What a good man you have! Hope you're feeling better soon!

ineedanotherholiday · 29/07/2019 07:40

Mines the same Op! He is a good'un anyway and does a fair amount of housework but has stepped up as I too am in early pregnancy. Thankfully I'm not too bad currently symptom wise but id popped out on the weekend and came back to a sparkling house.

Karwomannghia · 29/07/2019 07:42

What a lovely man and sorry you’re feeling so awful!

PooWillyBumBum · 29/07/2019 07:45

I’m finally on the up after going through similar and like you it’s made me realise how wonderful the man I married is. He commutes about three hours a day and works like a dog but has taken on all the house work and food prep, looked after me with such gentle kindness and hasn’t once moaned about it.

Would still rather feel normal though urgh 🤢

BikeRunSki · 29/07/2019 07:50

@gonewiththepotter

My DH stroked up massively too when I had hyperemisis too. Second time too, whilst also dealing with a 2 year old.

youarenotkiddingme · 29/07/2019 07:52

Love reading threads like these.

Hope the sickness passes soon Thanks

I was with an utter wanker (pure MN style one ) and have been single for 14 years since leaving him.
Threads like these remind me there are actual genuine nice men out there and although too late to meet one for more kids there is hope someone somewhere one day will come into my life and be an equal and step up if needed.

MrsMozartMkII · 29/07/2019 08:05

Aw. Lovely. Just as relationships should be.

I have one too. When life has been a bit too much, and when I've been physically broken, DH has been up and out and looked after the horses as well as me and the house. He's not really into horses, but will shovel shit and do all the rest of it to help me.

On my side I do all the client facing stuff and have kept working even when things weren't good. We both do what we can. We're a good team. It's come home to me how much he's taken on - he's broken his leg (once of the dogs ran into him) and I'm doing everything. He tries to help but isn't meant to be weight bearing so is restricted. He's being very appreciative!

Hope you start to feel better very soon OP.

Jayaywhynot · 29/07/2019 08:11

Send me your address, I'm moving in! Love your post and your DH! Flowers

Whiskeylover45 · 29/07/2019 08:43

I've read so many different threads on here where the husband is a total arse, so it's lovely to hear this. Thanks for sharing OP. Hes a gem 💎

Bentley111 · 29/07/2019 08:47

What a lovely post to read Star

I'm in my 12th week of being signed off with hyperemesis now too - it's miserable isn't it? Rest up and let that little baby grow. Hope you feel better soon x

LiveFatsDieYoGnu · 29/07/2019 08:49

Lovely thread OP Smile

I’m 11 weeks and also suffering pretty badly with sickness, and my DH has been similarly wonderful. A few days ago I got very upset about how useless I feel and he gave me a massive hug and gently told me off - “you’re growing a human, my top job at the moment is to look after you”. He’s a keeper too!

I hope your sickness eases soon (and mine too Wink) Flowers

gonewiththepotter · 29/07/2019 14:59

I’m so pleased to hear your stories ladies and know that some of you have DH’s as lovely as my own/ have left behind ones who weren’t ❤️ (You deserve so much better)

It’s kinda scary when TTC finally works and the ‘fantasy’ of starting a family becomes reality of you feeling/looking miserable for weeks. A small part of me worried (especially due to his brutal shifts) that despite ‘REALLY’ wanting to have a baby the reality might be too much for him.

Could not have been more wrong. He’s been 100% as good as his word!

In fact our pram/travel system arrived today (I know it’s FAR too early but the one I wanted had gone on sale and was about to be discontinued in this colour 😭 so bought it to cheer myself up and it shall go to live at my parents until time comes!) and DH has spent hours trying out every function and building it all to ‘make sure it works’ 😂 It’s been very sweet to watch ❤️ DH loves a good instruction manual!

LadyRannaldini · 29/07/2019 20:45

Trust me, it's 'trouper'. I know this stuff

As there are two equally valid words and there is no real context I fail to see how you can be so adament, whatever stuff you claim to know! How is a dancer more appropriate than a soldier in this instance?

pepperpot99 · 30/07/2019 13:03

LadyRannaldini: a 'trouper' is an individual who rallies 'round and pulls things together - not merely a dancer in a 'troupe'. A 'trooper' is a specifically military term denoting a soldier or similar individual. As far as I'm aware the OP didn't specify any military activity undertaken by her dh. Therefore my explanation was accurate. I fail to see why you are making such a song and dance (see what I did there?) about it.

BTW it's 'adamant' Wink. HTH.
