Terms of endearment - I hate them, are you with me?

Please just call me by my name, I am an adult. No need for sugar, sweetheart, sugar plum, honey, sossy snos or whatever else he thinks up for today. Halfmoonbay is perfect, it's my name - use it! It really winds me up and gives me the rage, or am I just an old grumpy cow?

Aww I quite like them! Only from DP though, and close friends.

PurpleDaisies · 27/07/2019 20:11

I totally agree. I also dislike my name being shortened.

CatsDolls · 27/07/2019 20:15

I like it! One of my friends calls me poppet, it's just a sign of endearment. There are far worse things to be called...

Late for dinner! 😂

Oysterbabe · 27/07/2019 20:17

I get called flower by a couple of the older women at work. I like it.

SunsetBeetch · 27/07/2019 20:19

YANBU. I don't mind so much when it's people I'm close to, but people I don't know? It's just cringey and overly-familiar imo.

Several times when complete strangers have used them, I haven't even realised they are talking to me...why would you call someone you don't even know 'honey'? Envy

HRH2020 · 27/07/2019 20:20

Duck and cock are ok

Sparklesocks · 27/07/2019 20:21

DP and I call each other babe, we didn’t even realise how much until we shared an Airbnb with another couple a few years back and suddenly noticed Blush

Generally it doesn’t bother me, but it depends on the context - an older man calling me sweetheart at work would make me Hmm but a lady cashier in the supermarket calling me poppet wouldn’t be a big deal

codenameduchess · 27/07/2019 20:28

Yanbu, it's cringey. I know a couple who use the same stupid pet name for each other and never use each other's actual names- ever! I limit time spent with them to an hour max because I just can't stand the 'aw kitten' 'kitten, are you ok kitten?' 'Kitten!'

When we were first dating now dh called me 'hun' and I nearly ended it right there.

TheSharkInTheDark · 27/07/2019 20:28

Duck and cock are ok

I literally just came here to post that these 2 are the worst ones 😂 truly make me cringe. Especially in a Black Country accent.

NuttyOrNice · 27/07/2019 20:28

I’m not a fan either. I get that it’s usually not meant with any malice but I find it a bit naff.

thundercats192 · 27/07/2019 20:29

YABU. I don't mind if at all -and genuinely like it from DH or close friends.

VivienneHolt · 27/07/2019 20:52

You wouldn't get on in our house Grin my husband and I call each other 'my love' far more than we ever call each other by our names.
