AIBU to ask you to share your TORCH screening experiences? (Borderline fluid around heart)

Hello. Wonder if anyone can help me get my head around this. I posted in antenatal tests but got no replies so I hope people don’t me posting in AIBU to see if anyone can help.
Had a scan today at 16 weeks - a heart scan due to a previous loss - and was told everything looks fine and normal. However one minor thing was that there is a little more fluid than is normal around the heart - she described it as a difference of mms and very borderline - and although a little fluid is normal she wants to get it checked as it can indicate infection sometimes.
No other markers - down’s etc screening came back low risk

I have to have blood tests to find out about infection but having googled (I know I know!) I’ve panicked myself thinking I’m going to have another experience with serious defects or abnormalities (had to have a tmfr previously).

I guess I’m looking for anyone who has been in the same boat and for a bit of a handhold really.
Does anyone know what happens if you do have an infection?

I didn't want to read and run but just wanted to say I hope everything goes ok for you and congratulations on your pregnancy. I had a torch screen done on Monday and was told if anything positive comes back they'll ring me to discuss going further otherwise you get results in writing in three weeks. From what I understand you'll get treated for any infection that you may have.

Thank you for posting! Good luck to you, hope your results come back clear x

I had a TORCH screen a few weeks ago, results took just over a week. I was clear for anything active and had had some things before. Are they getting you in for more scans to monitor the fluid? It's good everything else is normal and try to remember that the fluid is borderline so doesn't mean that there is definitely something wrong. My DD2 had lots of fluid due to her heart not beating properly so everything else looking good with the heart is good. Good luck.

Thank you @Bluebelltulip yes we are getting more scans. One at 20, one at 22 and then 28 and 32 - we were having those anyway due to the previous issue so they will monitor this then. She did emphasise it’s only slight but obviously given our history wanted to check it out. Glad to hear your results were clear and hope your DD2 is ok.

@AndBeholdAWhiteHorse can I ask why you were sent for torch screen? Did you have any symptoms or was it flagged at a scan?

@Bellasblankexpression of course, at my 20 week scan the sonographor flagged that the baby's bowel was bright. I was referred to fetal medicine and the consultant has run the torch screen and one for cystic fibrosis too.

This was back in the day, but I was given the TORCH test, possibly as an older mother, probably because I'd had CVS (chorionic villus sampling - in its early days then. All turned out well with the CVS, but guess they were following through.

Bellasblankexpression · 28/07/2019 07:26

Thank you both. Hope your results come back clear @AndBeholdAWhiteHorse

I think I’ll feel better once I’ve had the blood tests done so know I’ll have the results within a certain timeframe (hopefully!). Just finding the whole thing very stressful, especially after last time.
