Any suggestions? Sore Throat

Apologies posting here in desperation that someone may have a magical cure.

4 weeks ago I got a cold, cough and a sore throat.

Still have really sore throat (practically no voice and job involves lots of talking Sad) and have really had enough.

Went to drs last week and saw nurse practitioner who said my body will heal itself with rest (which is really tricky to do!).

Have also been told to gargle aspirin or salt water but it’s not working.

Last time I had this was 18 years ago when stressed after birth of DC3 and it lasted 3 months Sad

Please help a sad lady?

Can I watch with interest as feel the same. Throat is worst when I wake in the morning, agony when swallowing and gradually gets better through the day. Then bang, back with a vengeance next day. Really fed up with it.

Tyrozets and ultrachloraseptic .

thewreckofthehesperus · 26/07/2019 18:49

Tyrozets lozenges, available over the counter. Antibacterial and numbing, I find them very good

MushySeas · 26/07/2019 18:51

Drink warm freshly squeezed lemon with manuka honey 15+. Take bee propolis and a lot of vitamin C - always works for me.

Benjispruce · 26/07/2019 18:51

Tyrozets are fab and actually taste nice.
Rest your voice when you can and drink plenty of water. Some people swear by reducing dairy.

Iamnotagoddess · 26/07/2019 18:55

@Derpess

Same Sad

I had something similar before we broke up and I don't have any tonsils. The only things that would relieve it were ice lollies and slush puppies whilst at work.

Just going to say that I was told by a nurse at my GP surgery to book a routine appointment (3 weeks away) then when I rang again to ask that bloods were done again the next nurse wanted me to come in. She then scared the shit out of me by suggesting alcoholic liver disease (I drink around the recommended limit most weeks) until the GP ordered a glandular fever test which was positive.

My recent experience with nurse practitioners has been poor and I would make a nuisance of yourself until they check you out properly.

Iamnotagoddess · 26/07/2019 19:08

@GorkyMcPorky

Tbf she was really thorough.

Tyrozets or Difflam spray.

Iambuffy · 26/07/2019 19:15

Probably post nasal drip?
Try difflam, tyrozettes, gargling with soluble co codomol and beconase nasal spray morning and evening.

RockyRolly · 26/07/2019 19:19

Do you have excess acid?

Iamnotagoddess · 26/07/2019 19:21

I take Nexum every day for acid

OP posts:
RockyRolly · 26/07/2019 19:24

Theres your answer. Get further treatment for your acid or check any complications I.e hiatus hernia.

Iambuffy · 26/07/2019 19:24

Try the nasal spray

RockyRolly · 26/07/2019 19:25

Acid is basically regularly burning your throat which is why its hurting.

LipstickTaserrr · 26/07/2019 19:26

Also watching with interest as these are my exact symptoms. I've had this now for around 5 weeks. Really painful swallowing Sad

RockyRolly · 26/07/2019 23:13

@LipstickTaserrr get your acid checked out just incase

Shooturlocalmethdealer · 27/07/2019 04:16

Honey, lemon and whiskey work well. Also maybe a daily allergy pill? Hope you feel better soon!

AndBabyMakes3 · 27/07/2019 21:03

Listerine mouthwash (the green one with menthol listed in the ingredients) works for me - gargle if possible or do as i do and pretend you're taking a shot, when it hits the back of your throat spit it back out. Always clears a sore throat for me.

MissB83 · 27/07/2019 22:23

I've had this for three weeks too! I wonder if there's a noxious virus doing the rounds? I don't have stomach acid, don't smoke or drink, but the way I would describe it is that I normally get a feeling of "throat burn" and a lump that's hard to swallow at the start of a virus and I've had that for three weeks instead. It's so annoying Sad

cccameron · 27/07/2019 22:28

Oregano oil. Tastes dreadful but it's a miracle worker. It's an effective natural antibiotic and anti-fungal, anti viral, anti bacterial, anti inflammatory and anti parasitic. Has many health benefits but have gargled with it for a sore throat and its quickly got rid of it.

Minimamame · 27/07/2019 22:35

Vick vaporub rubbed on the outside of the throat helps me with a sore throat.
I suffer with a post nasal drip sometimes so Sudafed usually helps with that. I also lose my voice so I know how horrible that is. Get a good nasal spray too.
Hope you feel better soon.
