How did your career change when you had kids? I really want to leave the restaurant world but dont want to leave food behind. Anyone have a career based around food that isn't in a hot kitchen on weekends and evenings?

Exh moved to work for Bupa as a chef manager, in their homes for the elderly. He ran the kitchens in 3 sites and then designed the menus etc.

He used to work one weekend day as it suited us better.

Not me, but I know a few chefs who work in a staff restaurant at a massive pharmaceutical company campus. They just do breakfast and lunch mon-fri.

A friend of mine was a chef and recently moved into teaching catering at college, think he did have to do some kind of qualification though.

My DH left to work in a university kitchen, he still has to do some weekends, but he is at home for breakfast/school drop off and home for bedtime.

DH left to work as a sales rep for one of his suppliers much, much better!

Freelance and work when I want to and on what I want to. This can be from private dinner parties to freezer filling to teaching kids to cook. Also do some agency work which is often short notice in care homes and the like.
