And how many of you are there?

I made a lemon loaf style cake this evening (We're in Oz) and it was all gone in less than an hour.

There's DH and I and DD aged 15 and DD aged 11!

Gone!

I know a loaf style cake isn't enormous but still!

Agree with Aint, no one likes cake in my house (except me) so I end up passing it on to neighbours or taking it to work Grin.

ohtheholidays · 25/07/2019 13:16

There's 7 of us and if I make 1 large cake it's gone within the first day.

If I bake several things so cheese scones or cheese straws, shortbread, flapjacks, butterfly cakes then it'll last maybe 2-3 days unless I've made lots of each then it would last 5-6 days.

But right now it feels as hot as hell where I am so the thought of baking is not a pleasent one.

thedayofthethreeMagnums · 25/07/2019 13:16

Depends on the cake! A loaf-type thing can be gone in one afternoon, but that's only a couple of slices per person, 4 kids and 2 adults and always some extra kid hanging around.

A birthday cake type, a few days.

FrenchBoule · 25/07/2019 13:20

Depends on what kind of cake and the size of tin.

Sponges and anything chocolatey goes down well, cheesecakes not.

DontCallMeShitley · 25/07/2019 13:23

A lemon one would be gone in a day so I don't make them often. Banana lasts slightly longer as I don't eat it.

Spudlet · 25/07/2019 13:25

Maybe a week? I make a loaf fruitcake and it lasts us about a week. Me, DH and DS (3).

Haven’t made one this week although if the temperature drops as it says it should this weekend, I might do one then.

LadyRannaldini · 25/07/2019 13:29

When I made the Christmas cake last October I found half of the previous one in the tin when I wanted to put it away, it was amazingly good too. Generally because OH has this thing about sugar, we never otherwise have cakes, puddings etc.. Apparently the sugar in 2 bottles of wine a night is negligible!

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 25/07/2019 13:35

I have four sons, two of whom are teenagers. Cold cake isn't really a thing that exists in my house!

drsausage · 25/07/2019 13:45

Less than the time it takes to cool Grin

stucknoue · 25/07/2019 13:47

About 30 mins if I'm lucky, and that's for an 8inch Victoria sandwich, a loaf cake would last half that

littledrummergirl · 25/07/2019 13:49

Half for pudding, a piece each for lunch the next day and a small slither left until someone cracks and takes the last piece.

MrsDragonLady · 25/07/2019 13:50

There are six of us and it’s gone on the day it’s made. It’s DD’s birthday this week, so I’ll be baking cake in this heat 😩. Not going to lie, I’m not looking forward to it!

walkinwar · 25/07/2019 14:06

I love baking and love lemon cake even more! @HennyPennyHorror can you share the recipe? Cakes last typically 2 days in our house. We're also in Oz so will be baking this weekend.

Mumski45 · 25/07/2019 14:46

Gone before it's had time to cool properly in this house. 2 adults and 2 young teens.

CSIblonde · 25/07/2019 14:49

You have a teenager, they eat more because they're growing. Also my house sharer used to make a small Tesco size cake say help yourself then be annoyed most of it was gone in a day.... 5 of us, so not sure why she was surprised.

Drogosnextwife · 25/07/2019 14:52

4 of us and one day.
Everyone will have a slice and then every one will start picking it apart to just take their favourite bit, or digging into it with spoons and forks straight from the try/plate. Happens everytime. Really bugs me, but I'm the worst one for it.

1forAll74 · 25/07/2019 15:44

I never bake cakes,as family are not really into eating them. The only times we have a cake,is when I buy one for someones birthday, mainly for something to stick candles in, !

LittleOwl153 · 25/07/2019 15:52

@roundligament that looks fab! Can you share the recipe...

Longdistance · 25/07/2019 15:57

I make banana loaf and it lasts about 3 days between us. Dds have it for breakfast and snacks.

thefirstmrsdewinter · 25/07/2019 16:17

I usually make cake because I fancy cake so it might go quickly depending on whether dh is home and whether he also fancies cake.

Does no one else make a sponge in the microwave to avoid the hot oven? I often use up ripe fruit that way. Just had a slice of pear and chocolate I made on Tues. Smile

MyNameIsRachelAndIWantAPresent · 25/07/2019 16:23

My DC both love baking, but don't like cake. So the cake sits there for days until it's thrown away. It really annoys me!

EatingBreadAndHoney · 25/07/2019 16:25

2/3 days. I made a vanilla loaf cake yesterday too.

2toe · 25/07/2019 16:30

My lot are at them before they’ve even cooled, I’ve been known to ice half a cake as the other half is gone by the time the cake has cooled!

francienolan · 25/07/2019 16:32

I love to bake but it's just me and my husband so the only time I bake and it stays in the house is for his birthday. Last year it took us a week to finish the cake.

swampytiggaa · 25/07/2019 16:58

About an hour tbh. 2 adults 3 teenagers and a preteen.
