Anyone else think that was possibly the smuggest walk into Downing Street ever?

Was I alone in praying she would trip up?

HorridHenrysNits - I strongly agree. Many of my close friends studied abroad through the Erasmus programme. None of them were well-off: they were generally first generation in their families to go into higher education, had to take on a heavy burden of paid work to fund their studies, and many of them were from single-parent families.

Loss of opportunities for ordinary kids to study abroad may be a minor consequence of Brexit, but it's symbolic of the fact that we're moving backwards. That is, backwards towards a society where it's just accepted that the wealthy deserve to tour Europe, enjoy culture and pursue self-development, and the rest of us don't.

sionnachbeag · 25/07/2019 10:40

And brexit is for ever portrayed as the poor voting against the well off.

Except for when you look at who is ij number 10, and the cabinet, their track record on voting for issues for the poor, public spending and their attitudes towarss them.

Brexit was always a hard right movement and the poor are about to be well and truly shafted.

PrincessScarlett · 25/07/2019 10:44

I know Boris went on about having more women and ethic minorities in his cabinet but I'm so disappointed and sad that he's appointed such controversial female MPs.

The hate for PP is nothing to do with her being a woman. She is a lying, despicable, self serving individual. Her track record proves that. It's a long standing joke in her constituency that she only turns up to events that she can get something out of. Otherwise she completely ignores those she's meant to be serving.

derxa · 25/07/2019 10:51

Look I don't want Brexit and I want people from this country to study in Europe whether rich or poor. I know nothing about the Erasmus programme. But I found it hilarious that people on here were using Erasmus as a key argument for stopping Brexit.

derxa · 25/07/2019 10:53

And yes Priti Patel is ghastly.

sionnachbeag · 25/07/2019 10:55

I've not seen that used as an argument against brexit often, to characterise it as a common argument is disingenuous.

bellinisurge · 25/07/2019 10:59

Odd that you think taking rights off poorer people is a way of sticking it to wealthy folk, @derxa .
I am old with an immigrant Mum and a Dad who knew about the great depression by actually living through it. I worked and travelled abroad because my family had the tradition of it despite the many odds and lack of money. My classmates didn't because they didn't have the well travelled family I had and didn't have the money to make up for that. Their kids could - now, themselves in their 20s and 30s. Thanks to Erasmus. Forget Binky ffs. Clare and Sarah from Lancashire got to use Erasmus and there was fuck all Binky and his chums could do about it. Now that Binky and his chums are in Downing Street, Clare and Sarah can be "put back in their place". No options except shitty Brexit-y ones.

derxa · 25/07/2019 11:05

I've not seen that used as an argument against brexit often The key word is often because it has been used.

sionnachbeag · 25/07/2019 11:11

But you portrayed it as a key argument used often. It isn't.

derxa · 25/07/2019 11:13

But you portrayed it as a key argument used often. Nope

bellinisurge · 25/07/2019 11:17

And I quote "I'm against Brexit but there is a lot of wittering about how poor little Binky who can't go on the Erasmus programme because of Brexit on the Remainer threads"

"A lot of" or not @derxa ?. Which is it?

bellinisurge · 25/07/2019 11:19

And what are "Remainer threads". Do you mean Brexit threads where Remainers ask pesky questions and Leave supporters flounce off because Remain supporters are just meanies. 😂

derxa · 25/07/2019 11:25

A lot of" or not Some Grin Sorry I don't follow the strict Remainer talk guidelines.

bellinisurge · 25/07/2019 11:31

@derxa , you are a card! You play into the "all Remain voters are middle class" bollocks, get picked up on it and then pretend you didn't play into it after all by .... playing into it even more.

TheBigBallOfOil · 25/07/2019 11:35

I’ve talked myself into a good place on this. Boris is not a Brexit believer (evidence for this surely uncontrovertible). He has an immediate political problem with the Brexit party. So, pick the ripest selection of Brexit lunatics he can find for cabinet. Push Brexit through, go straight to country in a GE, Labour trounced in Scotland by SNP, Loses north, midlands, wales because of their Brexit position (or lack thereof), takes such s beating they never recover, at least in current form.
If he pulls it off I salute him. The odds aren’t good but it just might come off. I hate Brexit but I hate Corbyn’s labour more. This might just be the end of Labour can then rebuild in more sensible firm and give the grown ups someone to vote for again.

sionnachbeag · 25/07/2019 11:36

you said there was "a lot" of it, indicates its common.

Alsohuman · 25/07/2019 11:38

Wow, if that’s a good place,I’d hate to see a bad one.

derxa · 25/07/2019 11:39

You play into the "all Remain voters are middle class" bollocks Well I voted Remain and I'm middle class so it can't be "bollocks" (based on a sample of one).

TheBigBallOfOil · 25/07/2019 11:40

Look, I’ve built my happy place, don’t fucking ruin it.
Labour emerges purged of the corbynite cancer at the end, so there’s something in it for you lefties too

sionnachbeag · 25/07/2019 11:57

Sounds like soneone is rehashing the script from prior to the 2017 election.

TheBigBallOfOil · 25/07/2019 12:00

No, I don’t think that was the script, actually. Never mind. Most routes forward seem to lead to labours implosion, so there’s a silver lining for me whatever happens

sionnachbeag · 25/07/2019 12:02

which was exactly the script for 2017, didn't happen.

Boris has a majority of 5000, he could even lose his seat.

TheBigBallOfOil · 25/07/2019 12:03

Ok, everything’s fine. Carry on Corbyn.
I’m happy 😆

TheBigBallOfOil · 25/07/2019 12:04

We’ll overlook the fact that even in 2017, before he’d been exposed on Brexit and as an anti Semitic gobshite, he didn’t actually win. Minor details.

sionnachbeag · 25/07/2019 12:09

Ahhh the anti Semite stuff, what has Corbyn actually done?

Prior to 2017 it was a Tory landslide predicted, the whole of the media behind May, remember? You just console yourself with your fantasies. Its all you have.
