Just back from my small local co op. There were chuggers “charity muggers” standing inside the door, one on either side so unavoidable. I got past them on the way in because both were talking to people, but while I was paying I could see one of them was ready to accost me. I ignored him and walked past. At least on a city centre street they are easier to avoid.

i just say 'no thanks' and walk past. pita though when they are pushy.

WorraLiberty · 24/07/2019 18:09

If they were just inside the door, they presumably have permission from the owner.

If that's the case I'd complain and point out it's probably going to cost them trade.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 24/07/2019 18:10

You should've told them how rude they were being.

I can't stand them. I'd avoid shops with them standing outside like bouncers.

I always lie as I carry on walking. "Oh, I already support your charity"

i had one guy ask loudly 'don't you care about people with cancer ?' i was so angry by his attitude and following me after i said no thanks i said in all honestly 'i was a marie curie nurse for nearly ten years, make of it what you will.' he didn't answer.

We have a post office in town on the top floor of WH Smith, they sometimes stand in the shop at the bottom of the stairs and it feels so invasive!

@81Byerley slightly off topic but the other day I did this with the Scottish Power energy company in the shopping centre the other day.
Then he asked what tariff I was on.
I am not with Scottish Power and have no idea about their tariffs. I am a twat!

I have my headphones on and avoid eye contact.
One of the co-op chuggers decided to tap me on my arm to get my attention. It didn't have the effect he thought it would.
I kicked off about it, the cashiers also brought up their issues with the manager who had been called.
Never seen them since staff said loads of people had complained about them.

81Byerley · 24/07/2019 21:37

@newmomof1 I'd just say, "Sorry, I don't know, my husband dealt with it"...
