We have it quite bad here, I hate it and can't sleep!

I've been awake since 3. Have to be at work at 5.30. Bumbledog was going frantic so Mum took him to her room but I still didnt sleep... 😔 😔 😔

Figmentofimagination · 24/07/2019 05:57

We're all downstairs. The giant-scare the crap out of me-storm didn't wake DS(2) but the smaller storm did (?!?!). He's been awake since 1:30, DH took him down at 2am, I joined them at 4:30 when DS was having a massive tantrum and I couldn't sleep through it (I have work today, DH doesn't).
At least I can go into work earlier and finish earlier. Early night for all of us tonight.

It was a very flashy sort of storm here in the SW - very close. Lots of sheet lightning and very close flashes, saw the lady nearby who has bipolar and she was awake and felt worried she was scared. Hoping she was OK. DC fine though and has cleared the air a little which is good.

PookieDo · 24/07/2019 07:34

Essex. My poor dog was shaking Sad

Catchphrase · 24/07/2019 07:35

We had a storm (near Gloucester too, like PP) at 1am it was constant lightening and absolutely roaring thunder!

Heavy bout of rain too. I love it but I can understand why you'd find it scary.

My DM would get excited and wake me and my sibling up when there was a big storm to watch it from the bedroom window, she loved the lightening and that definitely rubbed off on me.

CharlesLeeRay · 24/07/2019 08:00

@SoupInTheLaundryBag yes all directions here to, we had heavy rain too!

My DD16 is so scared she came in my bed so I had shaking DD and shaking Ddog

Skinnychip · 24/07/2019 08:14

I was already pissed off as DH had complained how unbelievably hot it was in our room (it was!!) But then we went to bed and he fell asleep in about 5 seconds....while i tried and failed to sleep. Then i heard the first thunder storm which i found annoying esp as i had left washing out as it kept me awake longer ,and DH still sleeping so unfair but not scary. I must have just fallen asleep when the most deafening crack of thunder beginning the second storm, made me literally jump out of the bed in fright! Once i was awake and realised what it was it just became annoying again but wasn't as long as the first one. On the plus side me jumping out of my skin woke DH which was some consolation!!😂

notso · 24/07/2019 08:18

I love it. Its amazing.

Pinktinker · 24/07/2019 08:19

It was quite ridiculous and woke us up. Not scary, slightly annoying if anything.

myusernameisnotmyusername · 24/07/2019 08:21

I love it too. I can understand why people would find it scary though

thedayofthethreeMagnums · 24/07/2019 08:31

It was so pretty!

I am glad I wasn't on a campsite though. I keep pestering my kids about not sheltering under trees or swimming like their dum parents used to in thunderstorms, hope it sticks!

probstimeforanewname · 24/07/2019 08:50

Listening while you’re safe and cosy

But you're not safe. The house could be struck by lightning*. Or a tree near your house, which then falls on top of it. I hate thunderstorms.

*two houses were struck last night and set on fire, according to the BBC website

And Barchester, I had the same thought that the gods were expressing their displeasure ;)

thedayofthethreeMagnums · 24/07/2019 08:55

Technically you could also fall off the bed, break your neck and end up paralysed, but if you are in your house you are pretty safe.

SarahSinclair · 24/07/2019 09:01

Warwickshire here and we had thunder, lightning, wind and torrential rain. Wet the stuff on my window sil but only woke 2 of my kids, 1 of whom (6) ended up in bed with me as dad is away. ⛈

TapasForTwo · 24/07/2019 09:05

It woke me up at 2.45 (in South Yorkshire). The torrential rain has revived the hydrangea.

avalanching · 24/07/2019 09:07

I understand it's disruptive to sleep, but to the PPs who get scared...why?! I don't get it, what do you think is going to happen?! Ok lightening I get to a degree, the one in however million chance it sets fire to your house, but thunder is just a noise?! I have people on fb "terrified" and I just don't get it, I used to look out for tornadoes when the sirens went off in the US.

GreenwoodLane · 24/07/2019 09:11

I slept through the lot.
No idea how.

PeoniesarePink · 24/07/2019 09:17

We're not far from Gloucester and it was dreadful, I've never seen lightening like it. Luckily our 2 spaniels didn't bat an eyelid but I woke DH in a complete panic... he wasn't very impressed as he'd been awake for ages before and told me I'd missed the worst of it Blush

LadyRannaldini · 24/07/2019 10:20

Spectacular lightning here, Norfolk, mainly to the south of us, I lay in bed watching it for an hour.

Trooperslaneagain · 24/07/2019 10:43

Fucking shattered. DD was boiling at 5.10am and I got her up to drink some water. Nearly 11am and I'm falling off my feet.

We are going to be mostly eating water and dating inside today

smokeytoby · 24/07/2019 11:08

Last night we had lightening at around 2 flashes a second, it was honestly like a strobe light. I think it was because we didn't have a storm overhead, but had 3 bad storms very close by from what I could see from the lightening map, and we were seeing the lightening from all three. Lots of thunder too, and very heavy rain showers. It is eerie but I do find them quite exciting - couldn't sleep during it though as the make me feel odd and a bit nervous, they always have!

saavi · 24/07/2019 11:15

I also have an irrational fear of t and l. It only really started after I read that a young girl was struck through her window. I'm also extremely paranoid of being electrocuted via pipes, wires etc.

Luckily my dog was only scared initially but after a bit after some tlc (and we put the massive noisy fan on) he slept like a baby.

cheeseypuff · 24/07/2019 11:21

I love a good storm & lying in bed listening to the rain is lovely. I get why some people don't like them though.
Thankfully my kids weren't too bothered although we did have a massive thunderclap that made me jump out of my skin as I thought it had moved away!!

MmmBlowholes · 24/07/2019 12:33

YABU it sounds amazing, looks amazing and clears the pressure which usually takes my headache off.
