I heard this on the world service. The only person who didn't call him "an icon" seemed to be Peter Hain, who was rather less complimentary -- and also said Mugabe was the person whom Nelson Mandela had privately shown more dislike and disdain for than any other. That sounds more accurate than the "noble freedom fighter" image everyone seems to be trying to convey.

Oh, and there was one Zimbabwean who seemed to be of the opinion that Mugabe might shine by comparison with his successor, but only just.

Meanwhile my first thought when Brexit (or Boris) crashes the pound is "FFS my family this side is sending school fees over this week".

So, on other things......I've been (trying to) keep an eye on Brexit.

With the 'rebellion' amongst the Tories and now the opposition parties apparently united, they're hinting that BoJo may decide to resign if he doesn't want to break his 31 Oct promise. If so, will this be the shortest PM tenure (based on resignation) in British history? He's only been PM about 6 weeks!!

God, I wish we could have gotten Scrotus to contemplate resigning after 6 weeks!

There was a rather well-known TV clown here in the States who hosted a children's programme when I was little. His name was "Bozo the Clown". Every time I type 'BoJo' or see him it makes me think of this:

Pay up to build my border wall, Donald Trump tells Britain

The Trump administration is demanding that Britain and its Nato partners pick up the tab for US military projects in Europe that face being axed to free up funds for the Mexican border wall.

Eight schemes involving the Royal Air Force will be cut at bases in Croughton, Fairford and Menwith Hill. The projects in the UK, ranging from a school upgrade to building intelligence and operations units, were estimated to cost $250 million (£203 million), said the Pentagon.
