To sleep in the van?

Myself, DP and DD (14) are planning a camping trip to the highlands. We are in Kent. It's a 12 hour journey. Oh two dogs too so will need to make regular stops.

Wildcamping is illegal in England but not Scotland, so aibu to assume parking up in the van and sleeping is allowed?

In my mind's eye I see us parked up by an idyllic loch somewhere just north of the border having a wee bbq under the stars and then climbing into the back of dd's transit size van and getting some kip.

Reality would be me shitting myself that some crazed psychopath would be stalki g us, or likely we can't find anywhere suitable.

Our tent is too big to pitch up just for the night and the budget is pretty tight this year .
Would you consider this?

Join one of the Scottish motorhome groups on Facebook, they have maps of where you can park up.

Shame you’re in Kent. I’m SW. could lend you a tent! Anyone closer could let you borrow one?

Wolfe am looking on eBay for a smaller weekend tent. But yeah bit of a detour Grin

If you'll all fit in the back of a transit van comfortably then I'd do it. Alternatively spend a couple of nights in Dunfries and Galloway on the way? We went to a wonderful beachside site called Sandyhills last year, not far over the border (they even have pods you could hire for a night if you can't be bothered putting the tent up.

Just make sure the land isn't private and you should be fine! You won't regret it, it's absolutely gorgeous up there!
