I had a really weird email today, I’m guessing it’s a scam obviously but they were asking for money and quoting my password. Obviously I’m going to ignore It but Aibu to worry how they got my password?

Which password? Have you changed your email password now?

MegaMonsterMunch · 20/07/2019 20:46

I've had these, too. Does it say Save Yourself? Just ignore, well, that's what I'm doing at least. A quick Google shows it's a common scam. It quotes a very old password of mine.

Was it the porn one...😂

You should be worried if they quoted your password. You need to make sure you have updated all of the places that use that password and make sure all passwords going forward are different.

BigRedLondonBus · 20/07/2019 20:51

Yes save yourself! I tried to google but couldn’t find much It is one of the passwords I occasionally use so did worry me abit otherwise I would have just ignored. Obviously I just deleted it but had me wondering how they got it

I don’t watch porn lol but apparently they have caught me “satisfying myself” on a webcam which I don’t even need have!

I've just had one of these! And it was a porn one 😄
I googled and found a guardian article. There was a link to a website where you can check if your email has been compromised.
I got a hit back and it seems it was My Fitness Pal that was compromised. I think they had a massive data breach not long ago.

MangoDrink · 20/07/2019 20:57

A website you use that password on will have been hacked at some point and the passwords available online or on black market, these people are just trying there luck. Make sure you use different passwords for each site and you can sign up to haveibepwned to find out when your email shows up on a hacked list.

My husband got the porn one, he came rushing in and said "I've got an email, says I've been watching porn and I need to pay them, they have my passwords and are going to let everyone i know know."

I was distracted and responded oh it's a scam, don't worry, ignore it, they won't let anyone know if you've been watching porn. He bellowed with laughter and said " I'd love for them to tell everyone I'd been watching porn, that would be brilliant, but it's my password I'm worried about"

Guess they targeted the wrong guy. 😂😂😂😂

Sparklingbrook · 20/07/2019 21:01

I keep getting the porn one, quoting a password I used many, many moons ago. Complimenting my taste in porn and wanting Bitcoin. Hmm

BigRedLondonBus · 20/07/2019 21:50

They caught me “satisfying myself” on my non existent web came and will be showing it to all my social media contacts apparently! And want 800 bitcoin or something? Lol
