To ask if you would recommend buying a carpet cleaner

Do you own your own carpet cleaner? Is it worth the £100ish plus £20 odd for the fluid etc? If so, what one do you recommend?

I recently had our carpets professionally cleaned at £35 each, but my dog is constantly walking over them with mucky paws/ rubbing herself on them. I want to get the visible dirt out but also have a three month old so want to be able to keep them properly clean for when she starts crawling.

What fluid costs twenty quid? I just buy vanish or astonish or whatever from the supermarket.

And yes, totally worth it.

Looking at a Vax machine on amazon and it recommends the same brand cleaning solution (actually £20 down to £18)

Bissell is your friend. The liquids can e pricey but I get standard stuff way cheaper

Yes we split the cost of a vax with PIL, totally worth it and I've been thankful for it many times over the years, like when the DC have vomited on the carpet and the cat has left us a present. I buy generic carpet shampoo - screwfix do a good 5l for about £12 - but I've also used diluted dettol when I've been cleaning anything especially grim.

Absolutely! I have two dogs and two teens and I was fed up with renting a machine every few months. So I got my own (cost over £200) and get the cleaning fluid on Amazon. It has certainly paid for itself several times over.

Yes! Bought a Bissell a few years ago, after spending £100 on all the house carpets. I paid nearly £300 but part of it lifts off so it's perfect for spot removing when drinks get spilt or makeup dropped etc. Our living room opens straight outside so that carpet gets cleaned every few months. I buy the fluid from Amazon and a £20 bottle lasts ages.

PrincessScarlett · 20/07/2019 15:32

Definitely worth it. I have a Vax. You don't have to spend £20 on carpet cleaner, there are plenty of cheap alternatives.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 20/07/2019 15:33

Yep. Ours has been v useful.

Bought my Bissell in 2007 and still use it. Poundland sell carpet cleaner. Mine works best using water only and I manually spray specific stains

Jennyfi · 20/07/2019 16:10

Absolutely. We've had one for three years, and we buy the cleaner liquid off Amazon. It's definitely paid for itself over that time!
