To think I've got the most batshit neighbours?

MrsGaryLightbody · 20/07/2019 10:25

I'm gobsmacked...

History of next door is one letter through my door a month or so ago to ask if I would trim my rose bush in back garden as it's grown 8.5 inches above the fence and they can now see it. It's a five foot fence. Confused but I did new ( me) neighbourly thing and trimmed it.

This morning there's a note through door again from them , letting me know that they are going to contact the RSPSA and dog warden ( is there such a thing) and report me . A list of complaints were then listed .
These include, letting puppy howl all night, leaving pup alone all day to howl. Letting pup wee against same place on fence , which apparently seeps through and is damaging their vegetables. They are fed up with me shouting at puppy. They don't like the name I've chosen. Confused
They then go on to say they apologise for not stopping to give me a lift ( rural bus service) but they saw I had pup in my bag and didn't want it in their car. But they will be writing a stern letter to the bus company to complain that people shouldn't be allowed on buses with dogs as it's a health hazard.

I'm not sure whether to reply by writing ... or just shout through the letter box that I don't have a ducking dog!! I never have and I don't have any pets. The neighbours either side of me and them have cats. They have cats.

Just what I need ! Should I ignore?

Don't spend too much time in your garden, OP. If they can see your head over the fence, they'll write a note asking you to chop a few inches off.

Schizophrenia with Auditory and Visual Hallucinations?

feliciabirthgiver · 20/07/2019 12:34

Is it definitely from your neighbours, I hate to admit it but it might the sort of prank my friends and I may have played back in the day?

progestermoan · 20/07/2019 12:36

At least it makes a change from bin wars I suppose. That’s all we have round here with neighbours

Proteinshakesandovieshat · 20/07/2019 12:36

Please update asap.

Dec2019mumtobe · 20/07/2019 12:37

I'm really invested in this thread

Jokie · 20/07/2019 12:37

Based on your update it looks like they have form for this sort of behaviour. Did your nice neighbour say what they had accused her of?

Good luck OP.

ContactLight · 20/07/2019 12:38

Dunno about you lot, but I'm starting to get overly-invested in this thread Grin

My neighbours are batshit too. They once complained that my cat was using the flower bed under their living room window as a litter tray and making their dogs bark every time they saw it. I complained to them about their dogs barking all the time. They said it was my cat's fault and I said "Oh no it isn't". They insisted it was - which was when I had to explain to them that the cat they were moaning about couldn't be my cat because she'd been dead for three years Confused

Like the reddit post with the landlord that had the brain tumour, we had a neighbour who constantly complained of neighbour noises. She'd even created a log and showed the police, who cane round and realised it was nonsense when we could prove we were not their for several chunks of those incidents. She turned out to have a brain tumour too. There was no convincing her either. Several neighbours got the treatment and the council stopped listening to her as they saw her as vexatious and a time waster.

Love the ideas of getting a toy dog, a stiff lead, wearing a onesie etc though. Good luck op

MarianaMoatedGrange · 20/07/2019 12:42

Cheers Becky!

So,TSSDNCOP do tell us about your new neighbours launch into batshittery.......

Orangeballon · 20/07/2019 12:43

Are you sure the note is from your neighbours and not from someone who is trying to cause trouble?

soberken · 20/07/2019 12:45
Confused
Yellowweatherwarning · 20/07/2019 12:48

Popcorn anyone?

Thehop · 20/07/2019 12:49

I’m way too invested in this. Good luck OP.

Darkcloudsandsunnydays · 20/07/2019 12:50

I have a neighbour who I presume is mentally ill but I cannot know that for sure. We just avoid her at all costs. She is convinced everybody is against her and is prone to shouting screaming and swearing. We just get on with our own lives. I did try for several years to help her but I am not trained in the skills necessary. In your situation based on my experience I would ignore the letters but keep them with a personal written note of your observations in case the police are involved later.l

Zaphodsotherhead · 20/07/2019 12:50

It's the howling all day and night that gets me. Foxes and badgers can be noisy, but they don't tend to howl, and they don't tend to keep it up 24/7.

Is there, perhaps, a gap in a fence or is there some wiring that the wind whistles through on windy days/nights, and makes a sound like a dog howling? Could also sound like someone shouting...(a loose piece of plastic on our old silage clamp used to rattle in the wind and sound like voices).

The peeing on the fence thing is purely imaginary. They are crap at growing vegetables and running out of excuses...

Passthecherrycoke · 20/07/2019 12:51

This is brilliant

tealandteal · 20/07/2019 12:52

Our neighbours said similar things to us and we do have dogs. We were mortified but confused as they had never mentioned it in the previous three years and nor had our neighbours on the other side. We bought a camera with two way communication ready to speak to the dogs and calm them down. They never made a sound. Got some cute footage of them sleeping on their backs on the sofa though.

Groovee · 20/07/2019 12:52

How long do we give it before worrying about @MrsGaryLightbody

nespressowoo · 20/07/2019 12:52

I'm imagining the OP shouting at her pet fox or badger Grin

Thump · 20/07/2019 12:54

Well this has been an amusing read. Can't wait for an update!

ContactLight · 20/07/2019 12:54

Gardeners in the Olden Days (and now too for all I know) used to pee on the vegetable beds and on the compost heap. Acts as a fertiliser.

DramaAlpaca · 20/07/2019 12:54

Blatantly placemarking.

VenusTiger · 20/07/2019 12:54

@MrsGaryLightbody I don’t understand their fence issue.... if a dog is weeing up their fence, is it the shared fence with you? It doesn’t make sense, and only an unstated cat is likely to spray up a fence, likely from their side.

Either way, I’d make a point of getting yourself a rescue dog to live with now. Great company and will protect you from your weirdo neighbours!
