AIBU to want to know David LLoyd prices up front?

I don't get why David Lloyd don't have their membership prices online.

Why do you have to make an appointment to go and see them to find out prices?

Why are they so mysterious? Are they not really gyms but secret societies or something?!

They're such a massive brand, I don't get why they're so dumb about this. It's offputting and weird.

Our local one is about £110/month for an adult, including towels but excluding tennis. My DH works away during the week so visits the club nearer his workplace too. He transferred his membership to that one and is saving about £30/month

There’s a joining fee on top (£50 I think), plus if you want to leave there’s a 3 month notice period which is just mad.

bibliomania · 19/07/2019 16:56

I don't mind being on their mailing list - I'm hoping they'll attempt to lure me in with a free day pass, so I'll at least get a nice day out of it.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 19/07/2019 16:58

Notcoping I pay £28.99 a month. I do a minimum of 9 classes a week. That’s 36 a month, so works out cheaply. You can pay less and do fewer classes or you can pay as you go or do back to back classes.

ooooohbetty · 19/07/2019 16:59

I just rang mine and they told me on the phone. It was about £80 a month. I didn't join.

Peanutbuttericecream · 19/07/2019 16:59

I left David Lloyd due to their exorbitant prices, shabby changing areas and constant swimming lessons in the pool.

Don't bother.

Notcopingwellhere · 19/07/2019 17:05

Ah so it is a gym with a monthly membership then @Foxyloxy1plus1, I see. I thought you were talking about classes where you paid £1 a go rather than it just working out at £1 a go or less if you took full advantage of a gym timetable.

amusedbush · 19/07/2019 17:07

Fuck me, my last gym membership was £11.99 a month, including unlimited classes. I've just signed up to the brand new, multi-million pound sports centre at my work for £24 and I though that was steep Grin

MadameRenard · 19/07/2019 17:10

Shock I pay £34 a month, this is use of gym, sauna suite, pool and all classes (aqua and in the studios and all Les Mills stuff including an immersive studio where I think they do the Les Mills Spin Classes). I will say my gym is a council run facility. Spa is extra and the climbing facilities are extra (I think £10 per adult and £5 per child).

bruffin · 19/07/2019 17:12

its the same in most leisure centres, I went into The Queen Mother centre in Pimlico yesterday and no prices, my local council run centre is the same, you need to sit through a sale pitch, its ridiculous.
I pay £45 a month atm for the local one, which isnt bad but i find it difficult to find anything for me to do atm.

PenguinsRabbits · 19/07/2019 17:12

Ours was about £200 a month for family of 4 including towels each time, indoor /outdoor pools, steam room, saunas, jacuzzis, gym, indoor playcentre, tennis for kids, aerobics lessons, up to 4 hours of kids clubs a night from art, cinema to sports ones. It was great but need to go few times a week to make it worthwhile. Very clear and pools were warm.

MichelleC69 · 19/07/2019 17:18

I've been a member of DL for 4 years now. Their pricing structure is quite complicated, eg they have single/couples/family memberships, there are corporate rates for some companies, and then you pay extra for things like spa/courts/premium membership. So I can see why they don't advertise their rates.

Am not defending them, and yes they are expensive. My rationale is that the cost makes me go!!

Tobebythesea · 19/07/2019 17:21

I was a member for a year until last July. It was £103 in the SE for just me, peak time with no towels or tennis. Now with Virgin for £68 a month. I do miss their outdoor pool though.

gotmychocolateimgood · 19/07/2019 17:23

Our local DL has an outdoor pool which does sound lovely. I know a family who are members. It's too expensive for us but for them it's worth it, the mum doesn't work and goes to classes most days, the children use the pool a lot after school etc.

Heismyopendoor · 19/07/2019 17:24

The one near me was £360 a month for two adults and three kids. No golf for that price though!

Heismyopendoor · 19/07/2019 17:25

And I should add, we didn’t join but kept getting phone calls with special offers and asking continually why we didn’t want to join. We told them to stop phoning but they kept on and eventually had to complainz

fraxion · 19/07/2019 17:32

DL has always been ludicrously expensive. My friend joined offpeak for her and baby daughter when she was on maternity leave 9 years ago and it was 80+ per month.

damnson · 19/07/2019 17:35

I pay £195 a month for 2 adults and 2 children. Tbh it is a fortune but we use it almost daily and I like the outside pool in summer

SilverySurfer · 19/07/2019 17:37

Have you heard of Google? www.gymmembershipfees.com/david-lloyd-prices/

notacooldad · 19/07/2019 17:40

I am astounded at some of these gym prices.
I use the council gyms. Member ship is £23 a month and you can use any of the 3 modern leisure centres. Ok it's not going to luxurious but each one was up to 8 classes a day Monday to Friday and 4 each Saturday and Sunday. Classes include Metafit, spinning, Les Mills Classes. Yoga, pilates, kettlebells etc You also get use of a large swimming pool, sauna and steam roomslarge gym with machines and free weights a running track and an hour a month personal instruction ( which you can club together with friends and share)
I even get a discount so it costs £17 a month.
The place is always clean, friendly and equipment updated .Theres a decent cafe in two of them so there is a social vibe going on and an on line community presence.
I cant believe how much some people pay!

DerelictWreck · 19/07/2019 18:19

Anyone in London moved on from David Lloyd? I want to join an all bells and whistles gym (so I actually use it) but can't find one that people actually seem to like!

Notcopingwellhere · 19/07/2019 18:30

Virgin Active has been good for me.

bakedbeanzontoast · 19/07/2019 21:19

Unfortunately I have to choose convienience over anything else so I've been in PG for a long time but I've also been a member of VA and the council gym. VA was by far the best in terms of what matters IMO so half decent air conditioning, space, nice changing rooms.

PG sites vary but some of them are pretty claustrophobic. And then have the spin class in the main gym so everyone else has to hear the ridiculously loud music and the instructor screaming at the attendees.

However, I pay less than £20 and can use any site, so I can't complain. but if a decent gym opened close to me Id join in a heart beat.
