AIBU to want to know David LLoyd prices up front?

I don't get why David Lloyd don't have their membership prices online.

Why do you have to make an appointment to go and see them to find out prices?

Why are they so mysterious? Are they not really gyms but secret societies or something?!

They're such a massive brand, I don't get why they're so dumb about this. It's offputting and weird.

Because they don’t want you to sit at home, make this face 😳 and decide to sign up for puregym instead. They want you to come in and feel seduced by the coffee shop and all that stuff as they break the news about how much it costs.

sleepwhenidie · 19/07/2019 15:25

Totally agree, it’s the only business I can think of that does this and it makes it very clear that they are going to put a hard sell on when you visit, offering whatever amazing deal is only available that very day. Hmm

Bountylisa7 · 19/07/2019 15:25

Puts me off too

WooMaWang · 19/07/2019 15:26

I think our local David Lloyd is less a gym than a social club for the local ladies who lunch (full or part time). 😂

lmusic87 · 19/07/2019 15:26

They can't do the hard sell that way!

MorbidlyObeseWhale · 19/07/2019 15:27

They like you to go in so that they can talk you around before revealing the prices. They cost an absolute fortune btw and their staff (in my experience) are near on useless. Once they have your money, the smiles stop.

Doodlebug5 · 19/07/2019 15:28

My local one is £125 per month for a three month membership.

PianoPiano · 19/07/2019 15:31

£125 per month! For one person?

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 19/07/2019 15:31

Not unreasonable at all. However if people saw the price written in black and white without the sweet talk and hard sell from their staff no one would ever join.

Likethebattle · 19/07/2019 15:33

Outs is £85 per month plus £50 up front. I got an e-mail after doing a trial....erm no the local pure gym is £14.99

Oysterbabe · 19/07/2019 15:36

Because no one would sign up if they knew how much it cost before they'd been in and had the hard sell.

pandapickle · 19/07/2019 15:38

£125 for us too, plus quite a bit extra for children! They wouldn't stop calling me after the original quote.

IAmNoAngel · 19/07/2019 15:38

mine is £63 per month for a single person, no raquets.

heath48 · 19/07/2019 15:42

I pay £72 a month,no towel or tennis.

I love it,only swim now but go 6 days a week in the evening.Pool is always quiet after 8pm.Lovely indoor and outdoor pool and the food in the restaurant is fab as are the staff.

If I was only wanting a gym I would go elsewhere.

boymum9 · 19/07/2019 15:43

We paid £140 for a basic membership pm for exh and I, didn't include tennis or extras etc, crèche was £5 per hour on top, we cancelled it and both got memberships at a local 24 hour gym, miss the ease of being able to take kids swimming but other than that equipment and facilities at 24 gym are kept in a much better more up to date condition. Also agree that it's more a social meeting place for people, it was actually a very bitchy environment! Another reason I wanted to cancel!

hidinginthenightgarden · 19/07/2019 15:45

We pay £190 a month for a family of 4. That is the premium membership that includes towels, 10% off cafe and swim lessons and the kids use the kids club.

HeadintheiClouds · 19/07/2019 15:46

They want you to enquire by email, so they can bombard you with 5 million emails persuading you to change your mind after you’ve had a good laugh about their “amazing, just for you, special price”.
I still get them three years after a random enquiry.

Isitmeorhimthistime · 19/07/2019 15:47

I had this when i went in to ask and the receptionist asked to me wait while she got someone to show me around, I said no I'm in a hurry can't I just have the prices.
she replied don't worry I'll get someone now.
Then I was given a grand tour then sat in the coffee shop to have the prices read out to me and told I could stay and wander round for a while Confused.
it's a lovely place but all I wanted was a gym so now I go to xercise for less for a tenner a month Grin
If I wanted to swim or play tennis or take my DC along then perfect I can't think of anywhere nicer but I'm fine just where I am.

ClashCityRocker · 19/07/2019 15:48

If you just want a gym, it's bloody expensive.

The people who I know who use it have family memberships and do use it as more of a social club for them and the kids.

HeadintheiClouds · 19/07/2019 15:51

What??? My quote (my very special, tailored just for me quote) was over a grand per month Confused. Maybe I asked for two many extras Confused Confused Confused
Or maybe they saw me coming.

CheckingOutTheQuantocks · 19/07/2019 15:53

I had basic membership because ours had lovely pools, indoor and outdoor, and some good classes. But the pool was almost always 60% roped off for children's swimming classes and the rest was full of kids messing around waiting for a class. It was impossible to get a decent swim unless you went at 8pm. I didn't like paying £73 a month for what was basically Butlins with pretentions. And I would probably not have signed up had I not been given the tour and the hard sell beforehand.

TeenTimesTwo · 19/07/2019 15:55

We pay £2k for 2 adults and a teen. A luxury definitely, but nice.
Clean changing rooms, always lane swimming, never very busy off peak.

FamilyOhNo · 19/07/2019 15:55

A grand a month .... are you sure ?

What were the extras.... breakfast and dinner every day ?

WooMaWang · 19/07/2019 15:55

The pool in our local one (indoor only) isn’t deep enough to dive into. Anywhere. For the money, I’d like a proper pool.

WooMaWang · 19/07/2019 15:56

£2k? A month or year?
