AIBU to want to know David LLoyd prices up front?

I don't get why David Lloyd don't have their membership prices online.

Why do you have to make an appointment to go and see them to find out prices?

Why are they so mysterious? Are they not really gyms but secret societies or something?!

They're such a massive brand, I don't get why they're so dumb about this. It's offputting and weird.

A grand a month? Are they letting you move in for that?

PolkadotLollipop · 19/07/2019 15:58

I’ve recently cancelled mine after a few years but it was £130 per month, full membership.

TeenTimesTwo · 19/07/2019 15:58

A year! per month would be crazy.

HeadintheiClouds · 19/07/2019 15:59

Yes, per month. £1200, actually. It was access to the gym, pool and I think some aerobics classes. I declined their generous offer.

HeadintheiClouds · 19/07/2019 15:59

Not even free coffee...

WooMaWang · 19/07/2019 15:59

Well it’s only that someone was quoted over a grand a month. So I thought I’d check.

Baguetteaboutit · 19/07/2019 16:00

Fuck me, headin. That's, erm, bold of them.

alittlerayofsunshine · 19/07/2019 16:01

Took me 30 seconds on google to find the rates. Confused

onedayiwillmissthis · 19/07/2019 16:02

£102 per month, single, off peak, flexible (3 month initial then 1 months notice)

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 19/07/2019 16:02

Bloomin heck, our gym is £30 per monthBlush

PolkadotLollipop · 19/07/2019 16:04

You aren’t being UR to want to know the prices outright though. The opaque pricing is frustrating. I didn’t mind paying through the nose when you were paying for ‘exclusivity’. By that I mean they could keep member numbers down, meaning the pools weren’t overcrowded and there weren’t queues for machines in the gym or overbooked classes. However, in the 9-12 months prior to my cancelling, membership numbers went through the roof, the pools were so full you couldn’t actually swim in them and a few pieces of electronic gym equipment were frequently out of order/awaiting repair. Basically, they stopped offering me what I was paying the premium prices for, so I voted with my feet.

onedayiwillmissthis · 19/07/2019 16:05

And that doesn't include rackets!

SleepingSoul · 19/07/2019 16:05

We used to pay about £120 a month in the SW for a couple, excluding tennis and the vantage spa. Kids rates were done by age, when DD was 8 it was about £25 a month more for her. I used to love it, it's the sort of place I'd go for a work out, a class, a swim then a steam and sauna. Staff were great at mine.

Yanbu wanting to know the rates but they want to sell the lifestyle to you first. I seem to recall one of the PTs telling me they have to call it the Club, not the gym.

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/07/2019 16:06

2k a month?Shock
That's several times more than my rent

PolkadotLollipop · 19/07/2019 16:06

rayofsunshine, only that was a special offer rate from 2017.

NoisyNeighbour · 19/07/2019 16:07

Bloodyhell the prices!

I was seriously wondering about paying £33.00 a month for the following -

Gym & Free-Weights inc a personalised plan.

Fitness Classes.

Swimming Pool.

Aqua Aerobics/Aqua Zumba/Swim Fit.

Inflatable Pool Sessions.

Athletics TrackOn-the-day badminton and squash court hire (equipment not included )

Plus onejunior membership for a family member (under 16 years) to use the swimming pool.

All that for Thirty Three quid a month Shock

HeadintheiClouds · 19/07/2019 16:07

The (no frills) gym I eventually joined is £19 per month, for contrast. No pool, sadly, and the coffee comes from a vending machine, but hey, I don’t feel exactly short changed Grin

Cantthinkofanythingrightnow · 19/07/2019 16:08

@headintheiclouds £1200 is the annual fee for one person not monthly.

PolkadotLollipop · 19/07/2019 16:08

Prices vary from club to club and area to area.

I suspect they have to call it the ‘club’ because they started out as tennis centres rather than gyms.

imalrightjack · 19/07/2019 16:08

Our local one wants £190 a month for 2 adults and 2 under 5s 🤣🤣🤣. Nope!

HunterHearstHelmsley · 19/07/2019 16:09

We pay £77 for two adults and a child. It varies massively club to club.

HeadintheiClouds · 19/07/2019 16:09

This was a family membership per month.

Lordamighty · 19/07/2019 16:09

I pay £60 per month, basic membership, no racquets.

PolkadotLollipop · 19/07/2019 16:10

Are you the Duggars?!

floribunda18 · 19/07/2019 16:12

YANBU. My local council leisure centre is only £45 a month but until recently they didn't have the membership price on the website either. They should absolutely be transparent about pricing. I find it all a bit "If you need to know the price, darling, you can't afford it."
