To reject the abhorrent Trump rally with all my heart and soul

I rarely post here and actually I am not being unreasonable. Last night's rally in the States was truly utterly terrifying. We are no longer sleepwalking into repeating history, we are marching into it with the drums beating.

Where ever you lie on the political spectrum, we need to fight racism and reject it with all our might. We must stop the normalisation of it in the UK and we must ensure we do not see scenes like we saw in the States last night.

I'd post a BBC link, but I cannot find one on their mobile site.

Oooh @derxa, I like that, pink baseball caps with MPBA - make politics boring again.

dreichhighlands · 19/07/2019 14:01

Not convinced about the color pink, I think we need a more boring color, Magnolia or Taupe?
But I would definitely buy a MPBA cap.

Roussette · 19/07/2019 14:05

Yes! I'd buy one!

I, unfortunately, was tuned in to Loose Women today. Don't make a habit of it. To hear Carol McGiffen defend Trump's tweets nearly made me chuck something at the telly. She insists everyone didn't read it right and no way was it racist.

thenightsky · 19/07/2019 14:06

babba2014 That made me shiver Sad

Havingarethink · 19/07/2019 14:44

@rousestte, I generally find Carol McGiffen from loose women and Carol Malone from Jeremy Vine annoying and disagreeable for the sake of it. Similarly to Piers Morgan. I can't watch any of them if I'm off work as they tend to tip me over the edge.

TanMateix · 19/07/2019 14:46

”I plan on voting Libertarian”

you may as well vote for Trump because your vote will have the same effect. As dh said to me when the choice was Clinton or Trump - it is like picking Aids or Syphillis. You mightn't like either of them but you need to pick the least worst choice. Saying "no I'll have herpes instead" when there is no possibility of it is not a strategic

We should be putting that in posters in the streets (both in the US and the UK)

derxa · 19/07/2019 14:54

You're reminding me of the Father Ted scene. 'Down with that sort of thing!' 'Careful now!' We could put that on a beige T shirt.

MangoFeverDream · 19/07/2019 14:55

I don't think anyone crosses a dangerous river with a toddler on their back if they can possibly avoid it. Desperation. Fleeing danger etc

They weren’t fleeing danger. They were economic migrants, they’d have never been allowed to stay. The neighborhood wasn’t dangerous, the grandmother begged them not to go according to an interview, but they went anyway.

historysock · 19/07/2019 15:07

Jeremy Hunt won't even label it all for what it is-Racism. I can only assume Boris is similarly minded...
I despair for the world really....can't believe this is where we are at.

Roussette · 19/07/2019 15:52

Whatever you call it Mango but it was a tragedy and any moral human being would call it that, yet you have trump followers and even Border Patrol officers from DHS on a FB group making disgusting comments about it (too awful to repeat)

We've come full circle because today we have Ocasio Cortez questioning the Head of DHS about this and about the pictures and posts of her rape. There are 10,000 Border Patrol officers who were part of this FB group. Rotten to the core if the actual Officers feel like this.

Hearthside · 19/07/2019 16:01

I agree, the crowd chanting was awful. And trump looking around preening himself. It was like stepping back in time .

MangoFeverDream · 19/07/2019 16:29

it was a tragedy and any moral human being would call it that

Yes, and a real solution would be nice. Let’s start with finding ways to lessen the incentive for them to put themselves and their family at risk for a chance to stay in the US. I’m tired of this political football that doesn’t aim to solve anything but score points. This goes for both Dems and GOP

powershowerforanhour · 19/07/2019 16:35

Trump's pussy grabbing remark and the "spaz" impression made me think of lines from Yeats' "The Fisherman".
This rally puts me more in mind of another of his poems, "The Second Coming".

CousinKrispy · 19/07/2019 16:59

Another American in the UK checking in here. The behaviour of Trump and his supporters is beyond disgusting. It breaks my heart to see this happening.

Roussette · 19/07/2019 17:04

Well.... Trump's first year in office saw the lowest number of migrants since 1971 but that won't fit his anti-immigration rhetoric and his campaign promise to build a wall.

user764329056 · 19/07/2019 17:27

It’s sickening, his prejudices have encouraged all the like-minded to come out of the shadows and be celebrated for the bile they spew because their great ‘leader’ is the one spearheading it all. And if it’s possible to feel even worse about this, I am pretty sure he’ll be voted back in next year. I despair.

user764329056 · 19/07/2019 17:32

CousinKrispy, can I ask how you think things will go in the future for the US? This must be sending the country back decades, right into the attitudes of pre civil rights? It’s just abhorrent.
This piece of shit of a president must have unbelievably tight security, I genuinely can’t believe someone hasn’t had a pop at him yet.

Theknacktoflying · 19/07/2019 19:06

Cartoonist (Canadian Michael deAdder) lost work because of his cartoon showing Trump playing golf over the bodies of the immigrant ..

I just find it appalling how mainstream racism and conservatism (with a small c) has become ...
