Hello wise mumsnetters. Looking for some help or some previous experience... I was told a week ago that I had Achilles tendinitis after suffering with pain for a week. Took ibuprofen and paracetamol daily and it was feeling much much better, until this afternoon. For some reason it’s flared up again and I’m in AGONY, to makes matters worse we’re off on holiday tomorrow and I’m devastated as I can’t now get excited as I’m terrified that I will wake up tomorrow and be unable to walk and I’m wondering how on earth I can travel like this Sad. Tell me your tales to make me feel better because right now I don’t even want to go or give me some remedies that may help the situation. AIBU for wanting to cancel my longed for holiday right now?! HELP

I sincerely don't want to worry you. But when I thought I had achilles tendenitis it turned out to be a DVT. Has it been checked by a doctor, both ankles/calves measured, bloods taken?

I did see the doctor who was adamant that it was that and I spoke to her again today. But thanks!

Mine has come and gone. Do you know what aggravates yours? Mine gets better if I avoid what aggravates it.

I have it as an ongoing condition - but sometimes it is worse than others so I feel for your flare-up right now. Thanks Some ideas:

Hot bath - ideally with Epsom salts.

You could massage the tendon with bath oil in the bath (or moisturiser, afterwards)

Stretches before you get out of bed in the morning (the position of the legs when you sleep, or sit down for a log time, means that it's agony when you first stand). Manually rotating each foot from the ankle is a good one - circling in one direction then the other.

Wear proper running shoes with a raised heel like Nike Air Max, or a small (1 inch) heel if you have comfortable boots. Flip flops or anything completely flat are the worst. Converse are out. It's really annoying for fashion and for holidays, but flat shoes exacerbate it.

They're some of the things I have to do to live with it. I really hope it improves quickly and that you can enjoy your holiday.

How did it start? PM me if you have any questions Thanks
