So I probably am BU but here goes.

Friend tried to overdose last week and spent a few days in the hospital getting her system back to normal. I was supportive and visited even though I’m currently signed off work for my own mental health issues. They were released on Saturday (hosp stay was 2 & 1/2 days).

I’ve tried to continue to be supportive and ask how they are daily. Yesterday they asked me to meet today for food so we could talk properly. Planned for 3pm. I was just about to leave and they’ve text me saying they still feel a bit ill so can we leave it.

Whilst I don’t want my friend fainting because they’re too weak for an outing, AIBU to think they should have told me more than an hour before the meeting time?

We’ve been chatting online all day but they’ve been only just decided. They know I’m currently struggling with my own MH and this might sound selfish but it’s taken a lot for me to try and forget my issues and be there for them without them asking how i am in return.

If you friend only felt unwell enough to come an hour before then how could she have told you earlier?

I presume your friend is also suffering pretty badly with her mental health at the moment so use your experience to realise that sometimes that step out the door is just a step too far

Friend has form for flaking so I just don’t believe her

She isnt ready to talk so you need to back away .

It sounds to me like neither of you are in a place to be supportive of each other at the moment.

Take a step back, and also lower your expectations.
