To not know what to say when people complain about their weight?

I've joined the gym near work, as have several colleagues so diet and exercise come up in conversation. One keeps complaining about her weight gain... not sure what tack to take. I've tried emphathising about how hard it is to ignore snacks but I am not overweight and truthfully it rings a bit hollow. Not sure I can convincingly say she looks great and doesnt look like she's put on weight.

Don’t say anything at all? You don’t have to engage.

Just smile and empathise, like you have been doing. I don't think you can change how she sees herself.

My colleagues talk about their diets, whilst eating sugary treats. I genuinely think that good/diet discussions are just something to talk about/bond over Grin

It's just so ingrained that women must talk about weight, diet etc. Just smile nicely and move the convo on.
