OK, so there have been a few conspiracy theories around the 1969 moon landing, and some people think it was staged; all filmed on a film set (in Arizona I think...) I used to believe these conspiracy theories, but have seen a few things more recently that have made me think 'hmm maybe it did happen...' I am quite torn. So can I ask you to vote to say what you think... Thanks folks Smile

So, vote YABU if you think the 1969 moon landing DID happen.

And vote YANBU if you think it did NOT happen, and was indeed staged...

Much appreciated. Smile

(Sorry I can't enable a 'not sure' button, so if you aren't sure, just say so in the thread (if you like...)

Words fail me with this stupidity. Words fail me when people believe everything they're told! Amazing

managedmis · 16/07/2019 21:13

I always thought it was faked. There's not enough pictures

The moon is actually a model built in the ocean where people believe Australia is, put there by Gerry Anderson to film UFO and Space 1999:

SirTifiable · 16/07/2019 21:15

To paffuto

Give me one good reason which indicates it was faked.

Literally thousands of pictures:

I believe it happened.

And I'm really enjoying watching all the programmes about it.

What I just cannot get my head around though is the knowledge that was required, the mathematical calculations, the science the understanding . Obviously I am nowhere near bright enough but I just find it mind boggling. How did they know what the atmosphere would be like, how did they know to slingshot round the moon, what does that even mean! And if it took a rocket to launch them from earth, how did they launch off the moon? I mean I know they did. I guess I'm just in awe of the very clever minds that made it possible. Especially considering the technology they were using at the time.

Figgygal · 16/07/2019 21:23

It's just so fantastical I understand why people don't believe it but as it's never been whistle blown that it was a massive conspiracy it clearly did

cardibach · 16/07/2019 21:23

Don't you think that the reasons the Russians didn't bother is because they knew it was all faked
FFS flouncy do you have no idea of recent history? If the Russians had evidence edit was faked they would have released it and ridiculed the US because they were serious enemies! They wouldn’t have just shrugged and moved on! The point of getting there was to be first. Once the US had done that there was little point. If they HADN‘T however...

sionnachbeag · 16/07/2019 21:25

Russian cosmonauts sat and watched it, fingers crossed, hoping they would make it.

It's only meant to be light hearted folks. Smile

I think people are entitled to say they believe it didn't happen - or did happen - without being called half wits or eejits. People have their own reasons for their beliefs.

It's just a bit of a fun thread. Let's not get personal. Flowers

Sorry to be bossy! Blush

I'm curious: what would be the threshold for being a halfwit, if not this?

cardibach · 16/07/2019 21:28

People have their own reasons for their beliefs
This only works for things which are a matter of opinion, like whether gin is nice or God exists. People are not entitled to their own ‘beliefs’ about facts. If they choose to ‘believe’ something which is demonstrably false, they are half-wits and enjoys and deserve to be called that b

It's not light hearted though is it? The world is in quite a mess at the moment, in a large part due to ignorance and a view that 'beliefs' are of equal importance to facts. Those who don't believe that humans have walked on the moon are people who have no ability or desire to understand evidence. That is a problem.

@givemesteel the lunar module was discarded in space. They came back in the command module.

Ohrats · 16/07/2019 21:36

Gosh, it seems China are in on the conspiracy now too - gbtimes.com/china-just-bounced-a-laser-off-reflectors-on-the-moon-placed-by-nasas-apollo-15-mission

Amazing to think that so many astronomers from across the world are all joining in with this conspiracy theory, just so that they can make the US government of 60 years ago look good.

Hmm
SirTifiable · 16/07/2019 21:37

@ ready togogogo

Excellent post.

Put far more politely than I would have.
