To ask you about the 1969 moon landing, and if you think it actually DID happen... - LIGHT HEARTED.

OK, so there have been a few conspiracy theories around the 1969 moon landing, and some people think it was staged; all filmed on a film set (in Arizona I think...) I used to believe these conspiracy theories, but have seen a few things more recently that have made me think 'hmm maybe it did happen...' I am quite torn. So can I ask you to vote to say what you think... Thanks folks Smile

So, vote YABU if you think the 1969 moon landing DID happen.

And vote YANBU if you think it did NOT happen, and was indeed staged...

Much appreciated. Smile

(Sorry I can't enable a 'not sure' button, so if you aren't sure, just say so in the thread (if you like...)

It's suspect but I think they did go and didn't find what they were looking for so are now focusing on Mars.

FuzzyPuffling · 16/07/2019 20:34

I was 11 when it happened so can remember it. And I also remember the huge build up over years - there was an Apollo spaceflight every few months, all leading up to this. It wasn't a sudden "oh we've landed on the moon" event, it was all part of the larger Apollo programme and should be viewed in that context.

dreamyspires · 16/07/2019 20:38

Yep the Russians would have HAD to be in on it, they were observing the whole thing closely. If it was staged why would the Americans and the Russians want to fool us all. What would they gain from it all.

dreamyspires · 16/07/2019 20:43

So if both countries were in on it, that would mean that they aren’t really enemies, just pretending and both countries controlled by......the illuminati perhaps?..... It’s too much to take in.

twattymctwatterson · 16/07/2019 20:44

People who set any stall in this kind of theory really lack critical thinking skills. They regurgitate "facts" they've read online from bonkers sites like infowars. The "why has no one landed on the moon since?" Which is verifiably untrue with just a small amount of research.

Do you know what happened to the last man who accused Buzz Aldrin of faking the moon landing? Aldrin lamped him one and while I don't agree with violence I can understand why

OnlyaMan · 16/07/2019 20:44

How can people have landed on the moon, since the world is really FLAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You people who believe this kind of thing are just "SHEEPLE"!!!!!!!!
Er excuse me....I seem to have frothed at the mouth so much it has dribbled on my keyboard.
Seriously though, there are people in the world who really think like this. I urge alittlerayofsunshine not to encourage them.

The Clangers?

alittlerayofsunshine · 16/07/2019 20:48

As I said, I did used to believe the conspiracy theories, but am leaning towards thinking it DID happen now. Can't explain why I believed the conspiracy theories, I guess they were just convincing at the time.

Thanks so much for taking part folks. Please vote if you haven't already. Smile

You got it dreamyspires, well done for not being one of the brainwashed sheep

twattymctwatterson · 16/07/2019 20:53

I do think it happened, but can someone science minded explain to me what the earth looks so small in the photos they took there? The earth is so big compared to the moon and yet it looks the same as the moon looks from earth which really confuses me!

Coffee have you ever seen the episode of Father Ted with the sheep, some of which are small and some which are far away? That's basically it.

We are much smaller than the sun and we orbit it. It doesn't look any bigger than the moon. Because it's far away.

sionnachbeag · 16/07/2019 20:53

400,000 people worked on the moon landings.

The end to every conspiracy is people and paper work.

Nixon couldn't even cover up a few burglaries, and it was the deputy director of the FBI that sold him out.

No, it happened.

donquixotedelamancha · 16/07/2019 20:54

Can't believe everyone actually thinks the moon is real.

Of course it's real. Biggest ball of cheese in existence

There’s a sodding great orbital space station up there full of scientists, we’ve sent rockets to mars and asteroids, there have been multiple moon landings! Of course it happened!

@MWalterwalte actually going back and setting up a lunar landing point would make exploration further afield like Mars much cheaper and more achievable; they have been talking about it for a while. Not that we want humans to ruin another planet mind, as if destroying Earth isn't enough let's destroy the universe!

Of course they went to the moon and landed. There is countless evidence to prove this. Also, if it was faked how could they keep 130,000 people quiet for 50+ years? I’ve worked alongside government/civil service people - there is no way this could’ve been engineered.

The only aspects that were questionable are the photographs - but that has been proven to be due to touching up for public presentation.

Above all, if we hadn’t landed on the moon where do you think the cheese from Sainsbury’s comes from?

Anyone who believes conspiracy theories like this is a traitor to humanity and deserves to have all the benefits science and technology had provided them stripped away.

katseyes7 · 16/07/2019 21:05

l've just watched a documentary l recorded about it, with Brian Cox and Dara O'Briain.
What l cannot get my head around is something Brian Cox said. Apparently the technology they used to do it wouldn't even power a modern day mobile phone. Whaaaaat?!

@sionnachbeag exactly. I always think the same when people talk about conspiracy theories around 9/11 as well. Do people really think that your average joe soap went to work and took park in an unbelievable conspiracy and then just carried on as normal.
