When this is the whole 225g pack?
It's halloumi btw, surely 30g is a slice, who says just one slice?
Am I just greedy?

“but if I was serving it I’d serve one slice with around a third of that salad plus some grains”

Wow! That is stingy Comefromaway Hmm

I think some posters have disordered eating.

One slice?!! With the salad that's maybe 300 calories tops, maybe even less. Not nearly enough for a meal. I'd be Confused and Hmm if someone invited me over for food and didn't think it part of their remit to ensure that I didn't leave starving hungry!

I don’t think you’ll get a representative result, there is a part of MN who are very critical about food/calories and insist they only eat ‘x’ amount of tiny portions a day and anything else is greedy etc. Not everyone, but food/weight loss threads seem to bring them out.

I thought it was standard to eat a pack between 2

One slice? GrinGrinGrin

if food are high in fat, you are supposed to only eat a small amount. so you eat a small amount of ha

I eat quite a good amount of food and am a sensible weight (not one of the "I'd only eat") brigade . my thought is that halloumi is really salty and fatty so I guess I would eat about a quarter of a pack personally as a serving. If I was eating the salad you proposed that would be fine, you had anchovies I think... Also salty protein. Maybe I would want some couscous as well, instead of more halloumi. To fill up on...

I'm attempting to lose weight and have massively cut back my portions of things like cheese and cereal. You kind of get used to it but I could murder a big bowl of rice crispies now.

SoftSheen · 17/07/2019 22:20

I would say 2-3 slices if it is the only protein source in your main meal. This would be quite a lot of fat, but if served with a big salad and some bread, then the meal would be balanced.

I am on a high fat low carb diet for my gestational diabetes and it's been a real eye opener! In 5 weeks I've lost 3lb and then stayed a steady weight. And I'm now 32 weeks pregnant, so at the stage where it usually starts piling on.

I've been eating full fat philly, gouda cheese (v high fat), double cream, avocados, full fat Greek yogurt, nuts by the handful and full cream milk. Not counted a single calorie or weighed a gram. No sugar and carbs are slow release wholegrains, small portion with each meal, paired with the fats to slow down the release of the sugars even further. And my blood sugars have been just fine.

I have long since ditched a low fat diet as I no longer believe that fat makes you fat but honestly this has been a game changer and I might well carry it on in some form once the baby's out. Although it's bloody expensive!

And I'd have a third to a half of the block of halloumi (NOT a light version) shared with DH who is 6' 2", weighs 10.5 stone and has not a scrap of fat on him, yet eats for England (and regularly bikes 20 miles a day). Big Greek salad alongside (with olive oil obvs), maybe a tbsp or 2 of wholemeal couscous or quinoa. Yum.

So sod off with your single miserable slice of carefully weighed halloumi, you'd not be welcome round our gaff!
