I am on a high fat low carb diet for my gestational diabetes and it's been a real eye opener! In 5 weeks I've lost 3lb and then stayed a steady weight. And I'm now 32 weeks pregnant, so at the stage where it usually starts piling on.
I've been eating full fat philly, gouda cheese (v high fat), double cream, avocados, full fat Greek yogurt, nuts by the handful and full cream milk. Not counted a single calorie or weighed a gram. No sugar and carbs are slow release wholegrains, small portion with each meal, paired with the fats to slow down the release of the sugars even further. And my blood sugars have been just fine.
I have long since ditched a low fat diet as I no longer believe that fat makes you fat but honestly this has been a game changer and I might well carry it on in some form once the baby's out. Although it's bloody expensive!
And I'd have a third to a half of the block of halloumi (NOT a light version) shared with DH who is 6' 2", weighs 10.5 stone and has not a scrap of fat on him, yet eats for England (and regularly bikes 20 miles a day). Big Greek salad alongside (with olive oil obvs), maybe a tbsp or 2 of wholemeal couscous or quinoa. Yum.
So sod off with your single miserable slice of carefully weighed halloumi, you'd not be welcome round our gaff!
