When this is the whole 225g pack?
It's halloumi btw, surely 30g is a slice, who says just one slice?
Am I just greedy?

This is mumsnet OP. If you do more than lick an ice cube once a day you're a glutton.

adaline · 16/07/2019 19:58

Didn't get past I would eat half a hallumi deep fried in batter grin Is that a thing????

Yep - deep fried halloumi is a very popular veggie starter. It's the same as mozzarella sticks. Deep fried cheese. So bad for you, but so so good!

hsegfiugseskufh · 16/07/2019 20:01

Since when is halloumi a snack food?

Soyloprohibido · 16/07/2019 20:09

30g is 100 calories. 1-2 slices would be fairly normal as part of a meal depending on how many calories you burn each day.

BarbaraofSeville · 16/07/2019 20:10

Portion size instructions are nonsense bollocks of which no notice should be taken. Their sole purpose is to fool people into thinking that a high fat or high sugar food is not.

Why on earth would you believe such obvious rubbish? Like sharing packs of chocolates like M&Ms where they claim there is something stupid like 4.5 portions in a packet.

If you are having halloumi with salad as a meal, it's perfectly reasonable to eat a few hundred calories worth, as that's a normal amount of calories in one meal. Salt or fat isn't actually bad for most people btw, so no need to take any notice of those numbers either.

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/07/2019 20:14

Two slices?
Im a size 6-8 btw and 5 foot so really not overweight.
I still think it's a tiny portion, I think my meal was quite normal.
I've just had a full fat coconut yogurt and a peach.
If I'm up late and hungry I might have some smoked almonds.

It's because one portion of cheese is supposed to be a matchbox size piece - according to National dietary guidelines.

I don't know anyone who stops at a matchbox size piece of cheese Confused

Tentomidnight · 16/07/2019 20:16

I would eat 3 of those slices with half that salad as lunch = approx 400 calories = a reasonable lunch

Bloodybridget · 16/07/2019 20:20

DP and I normally eat about two thirds of a pack of halloumi between us, as the protein element of a meal ( for example with roasted vegetables). One slice is hardly any! As for the poster who said one slice would be enough in two vegetable kebabs - not in this house!

LolaSmiles · 16/07/2019 20:22

To be honest OP, your coconut yoghurt was probably worse for you than the cheese portion. GrinEat Well for Less had an interesting feature on sugar content in so called healthy yoghurts. It was really interesting. As ever all things in moderation.

I think these things need to be considered but viewed in the broader context of someone's overall diet. I'd happily eat 10 people's worth of cheese if there's an open cheese board somewhere, but I wouldn't eat excessively on other days so it doesn't matter.

If a hypothetical person was having a large salad with large amounts of cheese and dressing and kidding themselves it's the healthy option then there's bigger issues in terms of nutritional ignorance than portion size.

ReapersHowler · 16/07/2019 20:24

I was just thinking that whatafackinliberty some serious competitive under eating on this website. How miserable some peoples diets must be.

Iwantacookie · 16/07/2019 20:27

I could easily scoff a whole pack in one sitting.
I've given up reading packets they don't make any sense.
Normal people have half a pack so show calories etc for that and let people make their own minds up

Zaphodsotherhead · 16/07/2019 20:27

It's so they can print the 'Calorie Count' on the side of the packet and have it look reasonable. See also: breakfast cereal.

I bought some olives and feta today, where the calorie count on the packet said (something like, can't remember and not going back downstairs to look at the packet) 70 calories. I thought that was reasonable until I read the small print and saw that one portion (ie, the 70 calories) was for 1/4 of the pack. About four olives and one piece of feta. I wouldn't even bother opening the pack for that!

DareDevil223 · 16/07/2019 20:30

YABU OP, I had 2 almonds and some dust earlier and I'm stuffed but I am 5ft 10 and thinner than the Duchess of Cambridge so.......

formerbabe · 16/07/2019 20:32

Oh, I see the competitive under eaters are out in force.

Op...I'd have cut a 1cm piece of halloumi and eaten it with a single cube of cucumber. I'd be stuffed on that and would probably not have had to eat for at least a fortnight.

Wallabyone · 16/07/2019 20:32

@DareDevil223 😂

If halloumi was the only protein part of my meal, I would be eating about four/five thick slices. I wouldn't be full otherwise!

StripeySocks29 · 16/07/2019 20:33

I thought this was going to be about cereal.

It’s 30g more halloumi than I’d want to eat in one serving 🤮

LolaSmiles · 16/07/2019 20:34

You glutton you Smile
I'd have been stuffed on the single cube of cucumber.

DareDevil223 · 16/07/2019 20:37

@Wallabyone I'm regretting that second almond to be honest Grin

MonstranceClock · 16/07/2019 20:37

I usually have 3 thick slices. I have tried very hard many times to eat the whole block but I just cant do it. Dishonour on my family.

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 16/07/2019 20:43

1 or 2 slices IF served part of a full on meze - ie dips, olives, potato salad, Pitta, etc otherwise no way!

QueefMoon · 16/07/2019 20:50

Who are the greedy fuckers eating ENTIRE ice cubes?

Cecilandsnail · 16/07/2019 20:51

It's reading threads like this that reinforces my disordered eating! I'm so confused. On here some are shocked by eating more than one slice of halloumi, then I read the 'what have you eaten' threads and I think how the fuck do some people fit all that food in one day, and I'm not talking about one or two posters...more or less every other post I'm surprised by! Food is too confusing.

Cecilandsnail · 16/07/2019 20:53

Fwiw I'd have had 3 slices plus a third of that salad, plus a yoghurt or something for dessert. I'm five seven and 9st if that makes a difference?!

Cecilandsnail · 16/07/2019 20:54

And cereal can fuck off. 30g just isn't worth eating! So I've knocked it on the head.
