I want to have a baby. Soon. Health suggests we shouldn't wait (and working part time because of it).
I have two options income wise before we start TTC. Both temporary contracts, one longer than the other.
Option 1
Career path I'm interested in, just been offered job
Two days a week
Not enough money - will need another job (one day a week) to make it up to full SMP
Involves an evening of study
Four months longer on contract
Option 2
Current job that is limited in interest and ability to make progress - impacting self esteem
Two days a week
Enough money for full SMP, no further jobs required
Shorter contract by four months
Neither of these situations are ideal to try for a baby, but I am where I am! Option 1 is worrying me from a financial perspective but Option 2 is impacting my mental health. We might not be lucky enough to conceive during either contract, but I don't want to wait any more. Finding the rules around Maternity Allowance confusing.
Any thoughts?
