To be in a Cystitis Panic

Aroundnabout1 · 16/07/2019 01:22

Ive got a bit of health anxiety at the best of times and just wondering if people think its normal to feel really hot with a case of cystitis. Temp is slightly raised but not fever high, just feel hot, And found small dot of blood in my loo paper after a wee. Feels like i want to pee all the time and earlier had bit of pain in my ovary area but none now. But i made bad mistake of googling sepsis as a complication of cystitis. Has anyone had a bit of a temp with cystitis and should i go to GP in the morning? Just looking for bit of reassurance really that its not going to rapidly develop into something awful overnight! Never hd cystitis before. Thanks in advance.

Fever can be perfectly normal for a UTI. Fever isn’t actually classed as a sepsis indicator in adults, it’s the very low temps that are worrying.

Thanks for that. I find myself staring at the wall in blind panic unable to sleep! Im gonna take paracetamol to stop the need to pee sensation. Thanks again.

Paracetamol and some brufen (if you can take it) and a good glass of water will hopefully sort you till morning. Obviously 111 for assessment if you begin to feel much worse,

Home made cystitis help - a one pint saturated solution of sodium bicarbonate (flavour with diluting juice if you have it) which should be glugged in a series of mouthfuls rather than sipped. Follow with another pint of water. It does help, til you can get proper cystitis treatment in the morning.

If you don't have soda bic, just drink plain water, lots of it. You'll be up all night peeing but you could flush the bug out of your bladder.

Trip to the pharmacist in the morning for some over the counter treatment is usually enough for cystitis. I used to wee blood and have pain for about a day. The pain when comes to the end of a wee was excruciating.

Queenofpain fever IS most definitely a sign of sepsis in adults too!

OP it sounds like you have a Urinary tract infection. This can cause a bit of bleeding sometimes. You will need an antibiotic so either see your GP in the morning or call 111 tonight if you're are worried. In the meantime paracetamol is a good idea & make sure you're drinking plenty. Things to worry about would be a high fever with chills or shivers, racing heart rate or fast breathing, feeling unwell, sick, dizzy or faint and pain in your back around the kidneys.

Hope you feel better soon!

QueenofPain · 16/07/2019 01:46

Please don’t just try a home remedy.

If you have urinary frequency, pain passing urine, a tender suprapubic region and haematuria then you almost certainly do need some antibiotics and a sample sending to the lab, but it can safely wait until the morning unless you feel very unwell.

QueenofPain · 16/07/2019 01:47

@Woliverine Do you want to just go and familiarise yourself with the sepsis trust signs of sepsis? Fever isn’t on there for adults any longer.

Fever is a fairly normal sign that the body is fighting off an infection.

Thanks so much. Yes i had rapid heartbeat earlier but i think that was blind panic as its fine now. I suppose i was looking for reassurance that ill be ok until morning and wont wake up with sepsis. Sorry im a stress head !

You probably need some antibiotics especially if there is blood when you wipe. Cystitis is the worst. I had frequent cystitis when I was on the copper coil - nearly every month. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Op,might be an idea to take a sample of urine with you to the dr so they can test it.If you have a clean container,if not you will probably be asked to do one there and then.I am a sufferer of Cystitis almost constantly and feel your pain.Try drinking plenty of water to flush it out.
Good luck at the drs.Smile

Thanks guys. Have u ever had a temperature with it Empathy56?

I have had UTIs many, many times. I’m awake because I fly on holiday and have to get up at 3.30 and can’t sleep! This time of night is awful when you’re awake in pain with cystitis.Flowers
You do need to see a Dr for antibiotics but it’s likely to be able to wait until morning unless you feel really unwell. I have had it turn to a kidney infection and the symptoms for that were vomiting and back pain.
Drink lots and lots of water.Flowers

managedmis · 16/07/2019 03:14

So you don't yet have antibiotics? Not clear from your post. A hot water bottle on your tum will relieve the pain a bit.

I've had cystitis, and yes I had a temperature with it.

Definitely see the doctor.

Woliverine · 16/07/2019 07:22

Queen of pain whilst fever is no longer used in triage algorithms for sepsis it is still a common presenting symptom. I think to suggest that you shouldn't be worrying about sepsis unless your temperature is already low is potentially harmful advice.

Thanks to u lot, ur stars! Doc gave me anti-bs. Thanks again - feel better already.
