To think if you cycle into an elderly lady

You should at least stop and check she’s ok?

Gobsmacked at the total lack of concern shown by the cyclist. He took a chunk out her arm and just carried on!

statistically hit and run incidents are more common in car drivers and of course they're more likely to result in death.....however lets reserve all our anger for those self absorbed cunty cyclists

TYFTM · 15/07/2019 22:04

Was she wearing hi-viz?

RedSheep73 · 15/07/2019 22:13

The cyclist bit isn't really relevant here though is it. Is it ok to hit and run an old woman - no. Whether the perpetrator was cycling, driving, scooting, running or some other form of locomotion I haven't thought of is irrelevant. Except insofar as it gives an outing to the cyclist bashers. As if cyclists were some sort of homogeneous tribe who all behave the same, instead of being all different, just like drivers, or pedestrians. In fact most people do a bit of each at some point in their lives, and knobheads are knobheads whichever mode of transport they choose that day. The point is, it was a knobhead riding a bike. Not a 'cyclist'.

Where was the car driver in the incident being discussed? Nowhere. So, yes. In this case, and the other cases on this thread, let's reserve our anger for the self absorbed cunty cyclists who couldn't be arsed to stop.

Cars are totally irrelevant here.

SoupDragon · 15/07/2019 22:20

Funny how it's always "drivers" though, not simply a knobhead in a car. 🤔

TheRedBarrows · 15/07/2019 22:32

“Was she wearing hi-viz”

Why? Are we all supposed to wear hi viz now when walking on pavements in case a cyclist on the pavement wishes to speed along the same pavement? Confused

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 15/07/2019 22:41

They can damn well protect themselves by carrying insurance!

Had an insurance company been involved in the case above, they wouldn’t have been paying that amount in damages, they would have counter-sued the pedestrian, which would have capped his legal costs.

Not stopping when you hit someone is unforgivable regardless of whether you think you might get sued.

HazelBite · 15/07/2019 22:53

Thing is they cycle on the pavement, which is where pedestrians are, and are supposed to be.
In 2001 I was knocked over by a cyclist coming down a hill (on the pavement) at speed in the dark with no lights.
I ended up having to have 6 weeks off work.
It is a real problem in Central London.

SuzieQQQ · 15/07/2019 23:00

I was hit by a cyclist speeding along the footpath when I was 22. I walked around a blind corner and he hit me full force. I went flying and ended up in hospital with a broken arm and three broken ribs. He briefly turned around and tried to take off. My guy friend chased him and was going to call the police. I really hope the lady is okay! People are arseholes.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 15/07/2019 23:01

That’s a problem here too, Hazel. Often in dark clothing too.

The one that knocked me down was in a pedestrian only area. He did stop, but only to come back and yell abuse at me.

Babyroobs · 15/07/2019 23:03

My 81 year old dad got knocked into a wall by a child cyclist who came flying round a corner a few weeks ago. He sustained some lacerations to his arm which have taken a while to heal.

jennymanara · 15/07/2019 23:03

I got yelled at by a cyclist as I was on a pedestrian crossing and he whizzed by inches from me. It was pretty frightening.

ChesterDrawsDoesntExist · 15/07/2019 23:08

I sincerely hope someone chucks a stick in his spokes at high speed. What a horrible person, regardless of mode of transport (there is a special place in hell for certain "white van men" too)

Badcat666 · 15/07/2019 23:12

@Vulpine

Of COURSE there are more hit and run incidents in car drivers because there are more cars on the road than bicycles.

You don't have to be a brain surgeon or rocket scientist to work that little nugget of information out.

plasterboots · 16/07/2019 06:38

Well of course you should stop, but unfortunately the vast majority of cyclists are utterly self absorbed cunts who truly believe they can do no wrong.

This type of ridiculous statement just makes me roll my eyes, assume that everything you say is rubbish and that you lack the ability to have a half decent conversation.

You personally know the vast majority of cyclists do you?

OP YANBU of course the cyclist should've stopped.

HappyDinosaur · 16/07/2019 06:42

Yes they should have stopped, not because she was elderly, but because it's basic common decency.

HolyFuckballsBatman · 16/07/2019 07:44

Absolutely disgusting, but unfortunately unsurprising.

I was walking through a park holding hands with toddler DD when a cyclist (in full regalia, including a pointy helmet - looked a right prat) came speeding towards us. I had to sharply pull her to the side to avoid him hitting her.
He then had the cheek to shout at me 'watch where you're going!' yet he was cycling in a busy park, on a racing bike when there was a perfectly decent cycle path outside.

I do think that cyclists should have to have a license and be held accountable in the same way drivers are. They really are dangerous.
He'd have caused my DD serious injury if he'd hit her.

SagAloojah · 16/07/2019 07:53

Because the thread is about a cyclist knocking over a woman on a pavement you daft bint.

SagAloojah · 16/07/2019 07:55

Happydinosaur elderly people are often less resilient and need more help, even more important to stop for them

Picklypickles · 16/07/2019 09:11

Plasterboots - roll your eyes all you like! I stand by what I said. I absolutely fucking hate cyclists with a passion, I live in a national park and they swarm like fucking flies here and cause nothing but trouble. They ignore the beautiful cycle paths through moorland and forests so that they can sit 3 abreast in the middle of EVERY SINGLE road, not even pedalling just fucking sitting there admiring the scenery and chatting amongst themselves while a huge stream of traffic builds up behind them for mile after mile, or they hurtle through little villages flying around blind corners without a single thought for pedestrians/horses or anything else. They are deliberately antagonistic, trying desperately to kick off some altercation with anyone they can so they can post their stupid headcam footage on social media and have everyone tell them how righteous they are. Fucking pricks the lot of them.

Whatisinaname1 · 16/07/2019 09:22

Yanbu. I hope someone caught him on cctv or or a driver/other cyclist cam. Around here, the drivers/cyclists put cam evidence of arseholes on the local fb page to identify and shame them.

A fellow nursery mum was almost hit, her buggy (luckily empty) was clipped by a cyclist. Being a buggy and pretty sturdy, it had its revenge and dragged the cyclist down. A driver waiting at the zebra for her to cross caught it all on cam, the cyclist was shaken. Not sure what happened with the police but he was thoroughly named and shamed on the local page, though i doubt it bothered him.

DonLimpio · 16/07/2019 09:25

My elderly next door neighbour was badly injured by someone running a shopping trolley against her leg, she had a very bad bleed from a broken varicose vein and almost died due to the blood loss. You need to be careful around the elderly!

Schuyler · 16/07/2019 09:45

Of course you need to stop. Unfortunately, a small minority of cyclists behave badly and give other cyclists a bad name.

If you bumped into someone on the street and they fell over, would you not stop and just check they’re ok? No humanity in some people, whatever vehicle they use. :(

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 16/07/2019 09:50

Of COURSE there are more hit and run incidents in car drivers because there are more cars on the road than bicycles.

Did you also know pedestrians are more likely to be injured by a car mounting the pavement than a bike? But yeah as per bloody usual, demonise every single cyclist for the easy points.

JacquesHammer · 16/07/2019 09:52

however lets reserve all our anger for those self absorbed cunty cyclists

Given the discussion is about a cyclist, that does seem the most logical course of action. However do point out where the driver was in the OP and I'm sure people will direct their ire that way...

OP: sadly doesn't surprise me - a friend of DD's was knocked into the canal by a cyclist. Who just continued on his way and didn't bother to help get the child out of the canal.
