Totally superficial I know but I think she looks absolutely fantastic.

@Thump

Definitely indulge too much in wine. It needs to go doesn’t it.

My local gym does yoga classes, often at awkward times but workable a lot of the time. I’ll give it a go.

Just be happy with what you have in life. No doubt Kate eats a super healthy diet cooked by a chef and does loads of exercise. Not something I would want to to personally but each to their own.

You are a long time dead...

mrscampbellblackagain · 14/07/2019 14:52

She is 'model' slender but as others have said she is very tall and the other women in her family are very slim.

She was apparently sporty at school and certainly looks like she enjoys exercise. I suspect she is very disciplined though.

silverystream · 14/07/2019 14:53

Op, there is yoga on YouTube. You could start that today. If you don't have to watch kids you could also do a 30 min run. Entry level speed is this. 🙂

Beginner's yoga. Here

NoTheresa · 14/07/2019 14:56

I have to say I think the D of C is now too thin. The word “slim” has more positive connotations and her current look is merely thin. Her sister, especially in profile, looks older than her years now. But their choice, I guess.

FuriousVexation · 14/07/2019 15:03

Sorry who?

JustTheCrowsAndTheBeef · 14/07/2019 15:05

@SemperIdem it might be worth reporting this thread to @mnhq before re-posting somewhere other than AIBU without reference to the D of C. It has certainly taken a turn which is ‘not in the spirit of the site’.

You need to build muscle for strength. Yoga and Pilates are very gentle classes. Although the balancing exercises on one legs - try it now - just try to balance on one leg and bring your other foot to the side of the standing leg. See how long you can hold that? That's the sort of shit Pilates/Yoga is. You think you're doing nothing, but you're actually building strength all the time. It also stretches out the muscles which allows them to gain more strength. If you can do either/both of them even just once a week along with other weight/resistance training and some cardio, you'll work wonders.

In terms of salad, I use the only dressing I love. I don't get overly chewy type lettuce - just Romaine lettuce is fine. Shred it and sprinkle with salt. Not much. Then drizzle plain old Extra Virgin olive oil, and then finally drizzle White Wine vinegar. Mix it all up to ensure it's well coated.

I would usually have that daily with a piece of turkey steak/pork chop/chicken breast/steak if I'm particularly hungry and flush.

Have easy to eat fruit around - bananas, satsumas, plums.

Nuts are highly calorific and I would really only use those if I was veggie and not getting enough protein from meat.

And the fucker that I can't battle fully yet is the amount of alcohol.

As for breakfast - I don't generally get hungry until about 10/11am if I'm up at six. For breakfast I buy the tubs of vegan cocktail sausages - eat cold or hot - four of them will usually satisfy me.

Treats? Again - my demon is dark chocolate and usually at night [night]

I sort of have an agreement with myself that if I'm hungry, I can eat - once it's a tuna sandwich or something. At least I'm getting nutrition rather than empty calories/fat in chocolate. Doesn't always work.

Try to walk rather than get a bus to the shop 15 minutes away.

Walk up the stairs in work rather than taking the lift.

There's loads you can do, but you need to be attentive to it. I've made a deal with myself, that even if I'm totally exhausted on any given day, I will at least do a 20 minute brisk walk.

Sleep hygiene very important - same bedtime, same awake time.

If you're going out shopping for hours Saturday, bring maybe a banana, a bottle of water and a bag of nuts - it will save you feasting into a 1000 calorie McD's when you're just starving.

Smaller portions means your stomach shrinks so you feel full after a small portion.

Try not to eat until you're at least a little bit hungry.

That's about all I've learned. Feel free to ignore any and all of the above!

Oh and the other thing I do, is I spend time maybe painting my nails, putting on a face mask, foot mask, that sort of stuff.

Vigorous housework is really good too!

Unburnished · 14/07/2019 15:07

Are we looking at the same pictures?

She looks slim and toned to me. Not too thin at all.

WhenOneFacePalmDoesntCutIt · 14/07/2019 15:08

The best sport?

Ultimately, the one you enjoy and will stick to. There's no point in directing you to long distance running if you hate it, haven't got the time and will give up after 2 weeks/ months.

Some people swear by the gym and zumba, others by martial arts, triathlon or hockey. If you want to go for consistency and long term results, find the activities you love. Sport is not a chore, it should be your treat time. You'll know when you find the right ones.

Once you are fit and addicted, it gets so much easier to work on a specific body you want to achieve. There's no perfect body shape

SemperIdem · 14/07/2019 15:11

@JustTheCrowsAndTheBeef I did report it a few pages back when it started turning, haven’t had a response as yet but hopefully will do soon. Will have to copy and paste the helpful responses into my notes!

I think she has alwayslooked pretty much the same. She looks very healthy. Perhaps she isn't much into overeating food.

medusawashere · 14/07/2019 15:14

I was admiring the pictures of the DoC and thinking how healthy and pretty she looks.

What's normal is very skewed because of a population that is getting bigger. It's good to see more and more acceptance for curvier bodies, it's a very good thing! However, it is ALSO very normal to be the size that the DoC is. Some people just are. Some other people just eat well and work hard for that sort of figure.

Genes play their part too. I'm naturally small waisted and big hipped. I lost loads of weight to be more "up and down" and basically was left with hip BONES that were still at least ten/twelve inches more than my waist.

Women in the fifties would usually be likelier to aspire to be Kate's size. You can't watch old footage from that time without marvelling at how tiny the woman are. Eating puddings and "treating" ourselves is a ore modern phenomenon. Anecdotally of course, from my length chats with my DP's DGM.

This isn't one of those "it's normal and everyone else is a heifer" posts at all. I'm merely saying that if acceptance is growing for curvier bodies then it also needs to go the other way.

I say this as a curvy size ten, I don't have a horse in this race so this isn't bias.

Kate is normal. I am normal. Size 16 is normal. We're all normal. I would love her figure but have to work hard for what I have already and cannae be arsed to put more time in!

I just don't understand the obsession with cake and crisps as a 'treat' and not eating them as 'deprivation' of sorts. What is so amazing about these foods anyway? What's the appeal? Does junk food/stodgy food really bring so much happiness to people that not eating them is some sort of great sacrifice that makes people unhappy? Hmm

RedDogsBeg · 14/07/2019 15:26

No Theresa, perhaps you can answer where all the other too thin posters have failed to:

Too thin for what?

Pinktinker · 14/07/2019 15:29

I think she’s naturally very slim.

SoupDragon · 14/07/2019 15:31

Google claims her waist size (in The Sun, admittedly) is 24"

This would have been about a size 8-10 in the 1970s.

User8888888 · 14/07/2019 15:33

LaVieilleHarpie Yes those sorts of foods are associated with pleasure. Cake particularly would be linked to parties etc. I’m sure there is loads of psychology behind it. Also sugar and fat can be addictive. I find if I don’t have something for a while I don’t miss it but if I’m having chocolate regularly then I find I ‘need’ it. For me to loose weight I have to go cold turkey.

LaurieFairyCake · 14/07/2019 15:34

I guess because good cake is really amazing and I definitely have it as a 'treat' if I define treat as something I eat once a week or less.

I couldn't imagine depriving myself of something so delicious forever.

Benjispruce · 14/07/2019 15:34

I worked with colleague that was probably a size 18. She used to openly criticise another colleague who was a size 8 ish saying ‘Ooh she’s far too hon, she needs to put some weight on’ and I was so tempted to say ‘well you’re too fat and need to lose some’ except I didn’t because other people’s bodies are their business.

Boysey45 · 14/07/2019 15:36

She reminds me of Wallis Simpson.
She will be eating a low calorie diet and doing a lot of exercise. She will be eating things like a boiled egg for breakfast, a green salad for lunch and salmon and vegetables for tea. No snacks, rubbish or sweet stuff.

Loopytiles · 14/07/2019 15:36

“Too thin” IMO is BMI below the minimum of the “healthy” range, which Kate and almost all women in the public eye will be.
