Visiting newborn

If you lived in a house with someone who had a cold/cough but you weren't ill, would you visit a newborn??

My LG is 3 weeks old and my mil wants to visit today, however fil is pretty poorly at home, hence why she's coming to ours to see her.

I've said to DP I'm not too happy with her visiting although she's not physically sick, she could pass it on?!

AIBU to think this??

Provided she washes her hands and avoids kissing lo's face I'm sure she'll be fine.

it's the particles that spread it, if she's not sneezing you'll probably be ok.

Namechangedonceagain · 13/07/2019 06:28

I absolutely wouldn't risk it. 'probably ok' isn't good enough for newborns

MollyHuaCha · 13/07/2019 06:29

It's not just the baby you need to think of.

I caught a cold in hosp after giving birth.

Coughing and sneezing on an already fragile pelvic floor was horrible.

Tell her the Dr/midwife/health visitor said to wait a week.

MIL needs to stay home.

OKBobble · 13/07/2019 06:39

It will be fine. Do you not take your baby to clinic, out with you where he/she comes into contact with people? They need to build some natural immunities.

confusedandemployed · 13/07/2019 06:40

It wouldn't even occur to me to ask her to stay away.

We have a strained relationship anyway, I keep the peace for DP sake, she can be very manipulative and overbearing to the point of angrily phoning DP while I was being induced (trying to break my waters) saying she felt 'sidelined' because she couldn't visit... while I was in labour/being induced!

I know this is typical of mumsnet on the subject of mils so that's a whole other thread Sad

I did text asking was she sure she should visit if Fil wasn't well and she just answered with 'well I'm not ill am I' Hmm

I've known babies to be in hospital with bronchitis due to catching a cough Angry I'm hoping my LO will be asleep when she visits.
