To ask what a classy tattoo is?

Ok, please don’t shoot me down this is an honest question from an obviously out of touch person. ( name changed obviously)
But what the hell do people mean when they say that a tattoo is classy or amazing art work??
I see them everywhere but have never seen anything that I would say was attaractive on flesh.
They are various degrees of quality of art work yes but classy nope.
On another thread people were saying they had high quality tattoos but what does that even look like? Surely to anyone judging a tattoo is a tattoo I e a permanent mark on your body?
I would assume people like David beckham and Robbie Williams must have the higher quality tattoos? Basic As they have the money ? But to many people they would be judged poorly in a few real life settings. I would not personally say I like the look.
Sorry but pondering the consequences of not being aware of a difference and wondering if judgments are being made on artwork quality Within the tattooed population and the non tattooed are just judging any tattoo?
Explane probably photos required here.
Sorry about typos struggling with iPad tonight

Musical notes from Shostakovich symphony 5?

SilverySurfer · 12/07/2019 23:40

Surely it's a bit of an oxymoron to use classy and tattoo in the same sentence? I've seen plenty of fugly ones, never seen a classy one.

Breathlessness · 12/07/2019 23:42

This?

To ask what a classy tattoo is?
Hearthside · 12/07/2019 23:46

know David Beckham is talented and loaded but I do judge so when I see tattoos I think,

Working class
Low self esteem
Poor judgement
Impulsive
Less educated
Less likely to be a professional such as Dr or solicitor
Most definitely not an individual and certainly a sheep

If I see a man on a dating site with tattoos I immediately rule him out as unsuitable.

I know there are exception such a Zara Philip or Sam Cameron foot one. I still think of the above category!

10 out of 10 for judgemental. I have two tattoos. Nothing wrong with my self esteem, i am very confident, nor am i a sheep , well not last time i looked in the mirror 🙄.And nothing wrong with my education

I have seen plenty of Dr's , paramedics etc with tattoos .But judge away if it makes you feel betterHmm.

*Many Olympic athletes have tattoos of the logo of the games in which they competed.

That’s classy.*

I work with several Olympic athletes, most of them with medals and none of them have any tattoos. I wouldn't judge any of them if they had, but I wouldn't say it was 'classy'.

Breathlessness · 12/07/2019 23:47

TBF you didn’t marry David Cameron which has to be a sign of questionable judgement.

twattymctwatterson · 13/07/2019 00:43

So basically the thread you've started is really "tattoos are tacky and look awful, prove me wrong"

You don't like tattoos, that's absolutely fine, don't get one. You just sound unpleasant starting faux naive threads about not understanding what makes good tattoo artwork.

twattymctwatterson · 13/07/2019 00:47

Oh look op didn't come back. People who start deliberately goady threads and fuck off are the ones MNHQ should be dealing with, rather than women who don't want to share communal changing rooms with penises or women who don't want to see others defrauded out of money by trolls.

HairToday79 · 13/07/2019 00:53

hearthside what's wrong with working class? That's nothing to look down on 🤔

Whoops75 · 13/07/2019 00:53

Other people’s tattoos are none of your business.

Classy or not , whatever that means!

HairToday79 · 13/07/2019 00:58

Apologies hearthside, I've just realised you were quoting another poster.

littlepeas · 13/07/2019 01:14

It is the person who is ‘classy’ (or not) - a tattoo cannot create or undo ‘class’.

Hearthside · 13/07/2019 01:41

No worries @Hair i am as working class as they come .I should have put the quote in bold but i am not that tech savvy 🤣.

CilantroChili · 13/07/2019 01:50

I like Lena denham’s Tattoo

I like my (male) Vietnamese nail technician’s sleeve

These are the only ones I’ve ever seen (one in real life, the other not, obvs) that I found aesthetically pleasing.

Can’t get too excited about it personally but I do hope my children don’t get tattoos

BoronationStreet · 13/07/2019 02:10

I have the Sanskrit symbol for eternal love on the inside of my wrist and I get lots of compliments on it. Also a tat on my ankle and another day n my back.

My next tattoo will be the Ohm sign on the right side of my rib cage.

Musical notes from Shostakovich symphony 5?

Please, darling. Shostakovich is de mauvais ton. Prokofiev would be really fucking classy, though.

Ok but seriously why do people kid themselves they are not associated with more working class types. As for the person commenting that she has seen many Drs and paramedics with tattoos. I imagine plenty paramedics and nurses have them. Drs and consultants less so. As for the Art work and not appreciating it I come from a family of artists from both sides, so I'm related to gallery owners and artists who have exhibited in the Tate. They feel the same way as me about tattoos, you have to be really careful I know as people with tattoos get defensive. This however is a choice you are choosing to do this, it's not the same as a sexual orientation, disability or race. Lifestyle choices do not put you above any scrutiny. If you don't like judgement think before being a sheep. It's a fashion there is absolutely no doubt in my mind.

CSIblonde · 13/07/2019 11:59

Each to their own, but tattoos aren't classy. Unless they're a fake, arty Maori design & on Jason Momoa in that film (mental blank on film name).

hsegfiugseskufh · 13/07/2019 12:12

soapona what an absolutely vile attitude you have.

daledoback · 13/07/2019 12:19

This however is a choice you are choosing to do this, it's not the same as a sexual orientation, disability or race.

So it's ok for people to be openly rude and quite frankly disgusting about it then is it?

JacquesHammer · 13/07/2019 12:24

As for the Art work and not appreciating it I come from a family of artists from both sides, so I'm related to gallery owners and artists who have exhibited in the Tate

Gosh how narrow minded they must be if they think they’re the last word on the art world because they’ve been in the Tate.

JacquesHammer · 13/07/2019 12:25

Oh and when I broke my ankle severely my consultant had several very visible tattoos. I much appreciated his input as it meant he was more minded to not wreck mine during the op!

Rachelover40 · 13/07/2019 12:27

On the whole, I agree with soapona. Tattoos certainly don't enhance anyone's appearance and they can be habit forming; Some have one and then keep on adding - even on their feet!

It is so nice to go to the beach and see young people with perfectly clear skin, not a tattoo in sight, amongst those who do have them. It's the same with weddings, so many brides have stuff drawn all over and that's only on the bits that are visible, goodness knows what they have under their clothes. Lovely to see a wedding where there are no tattoos.
The Duchesses of Cambridge and Sussex, Pippa Middleton and Princess Eugenie had no tattoos on show and they looked lovely.

There is absolutely nothing classy about a tattoo.

I wish the fashion for tattooing would end soon.

JacquesHammer · 13/07/2019 12:29

My GOD, surely NOT on their feet Grin

Some have one and then keep on adding - even on their feet!
