To think babies aren't the only reason to marry?

NC just in case

I recently got married and seem to be on 'baby watch'. I've lost count of the amount of people who have asked me if we are planning to have children in the near future.

we don't even know if we want children , and certainly don't want them now. Is it so unusual for newlyweds to not want kids right away?

And I'm pretty sure I'm going to lose my new job over this (they didn't know I was married when they hired me), and since they found out I've been asked if I'm thinking about children numerous times, including by the HR manager, who has turned cold towards me since find out I'm married. They must be worried about the prospect of a woman on maternity leave for a year. A man said my 'clock is ticking' after asking my age (I'm still in my 20s!) so I think I'm going to fail probation. My boss has pretty much ignored me since finding out too and doesn't give me any work to do despite giving work to my colleagues.

Please tell me not everyone thinks a recently married woman is going to get pregnant ASAP? And not everyone thinks she will be a risk to their business? Sad

Ugh YANBU but it's part of being a woman- you either get married or you don't, but once you're married and/or in your 30s it's number one question. Then once you have one they want to know when you want another. It's not ok, but it happens universally

Ugh YANBU. I have experienced the same, and even though we ARE ttc I’ve found it insanely infuriating. Went to see my old boss and team for drinks a few weeks ago and the questions were relentless. Not just ‘are you planning children?’ but ‘are you trying now?’ Made me want to say ‘actually Andrew I’m ovulating today so must dash home for a quick bang before bed. Lovely to see you!’
