Six Four by Hideo Yokoyama - it's a classic Japanese crime thriller which has been translated to English. Slow moving (I find Japanese writers tend to write sedately and then knock you out with an unexpected shock!) but really well written.

MotherOfSoupDragons · 12/07/2019 17:45

The Ministry of Utmost Happiness by Arundhati Roy.

TheWernethWife · 12/07/2019 17:49

Armisted Maupin's autobiography.

Mumsnet!

Engines of Privilege: Britain's Private School Problem, by Francis Green and David Kynaston. Published 2019; very well researched and written; highly recommended.

gracepoolesrum · 12/07/2019 18:21

The Underground Railroad- brilliant but so harrowing.

Newname908 · 12/07/2019 18:24

Mr Mercedes by Stephen King.
It’s great. It’s nothing new, the genre has been done to death but he is such a good writer that I’m truly gripped.

Toohotformyliking · 12/07/2019 18:25

BirthdayCakes - how are you enjoying Lanny? I was a bit perplexed by it because I found it beautifully written but I thought Lanny himself was insufferable. I can't help wondering if I missed something!

Lastbustowhitehawk · 12/07/2019 18:30

KurriKurri · 12/07/2019 19:00

I'm just finishing 'I Invited Her In' by Adele Parks - It's a bit crap - I wouldn;t recommend. I have 'The Hoarder' by Jess Kidd lined up to read next - it looks good, followed by 'Three things About Elsie' by Joanna Cannon which also looks interesting.
