To ask if you get pms?

I get terrible pms in the run up to my period and I'm so fed up with it.

I get so ratty, in a bad mood constantly although I try my best to keep it under control!

Anyone else get this and if so do you take anything to help with symptoms?

Yes I used to be filled with utter self loathing and anger about tiny things. I started taking oil of evening primrose in the week before I was due (after someone recommended it on a pms thread on here a few years ago!), although apparently it can interfere with contraception.
Exercise has also helped.

Isaididont · 12/07/2019 14:11

I do. Some months it’s worse than others. I can get depressed, irritable etc.
Maybe I should try evening primrose oil. I’m always sceptical as to whether these things work.

Nesssie · 12/07/2019 14:22

Yes. I get fat/sore/spotty and mean! I can feel myself losing my temper or snapping. I don't take anything for it though.
I have heard that evening primrose can help.

Jinglejanglefish · 12/07/2019 14:25

No I don't. But I am on the contraceptive pill so maybe that's something to do with it. I finish my pack, get some mild period pains and the next day it starts.

123Helpus · 12/07/2019 14:27

Yes! Suffered for years! Then I finally got the contraceptive pill and feel the best I have in my whole life. Although I did have to try a few before I found the right one for me. Really feel for ypu

Myheartbelongsto · 12/07/2019 14:41

It's horrible isn't it!

I can feel the rage coming and I can't seem to stop it even when I have a word with myself and yes, yes to being mean!

I hate myself the week before my period. I got some evening primrose oil so I'm definitely going to give them a go, going to take one right now in fact and save my poor family from my awful mood.

I'm crying too, over nothing!

Not me but a close friend quit soya which she found really helped

PerfectionistProcrastinator · 12/07/2019 14:44

Yes. Some months are better than others.

I am usually quite a laid back person but about a week before my period I have a very short fuse.

I sometimes wonder if I’m making excuses for myself but I usually first notice it when driving. If another driver annoys me I don’t usually respond. If I huff about something, you can be sure my period is due soon.

Siameasy · 12/07/2019 15:22

Oh I am horrific. DH just ignores me now. I get irrationally angry and go into one. I also get brain fog and feel very overwhelmed. I’m mid-40s so I suspect peri-menopause

becca3210 · 12/07/2019 15:24

My friend has found the advice in the book 'Period power' by Maisy Hill really helpful for managing her periods.

Myheartbelongsto · 12/07/2019 15:25

we could be twins siameasy, I too would say I'm horrific.

Further...DH annoys me so much when I’m pmt. for no reason.
You hear these stories of tribal women going in a period hut-I wish it were true. When I’m pms-ing I want to be left alone, not touched EVER. DH knows never to try it on. Dd seems to know I’m pmt and plays up.

bringthethunder · 12/07/2019 15:44

I don't actually get many pms symptoms the on my period, or the week before, but when I am ovulating instead for reasons unknown. I get incredible anxiety for a good 3-4 days, could cry at the drop of a hat and lose all patience with anyone and everyone. I can literally feel it coming on and recognise it happening first through the anxiety and then thr rest makes sense. Actually very stressful.

bringthethunder · 12/07/2019 15:44

symptoms when on my period typo

morningcuppatea · 12/07/2019 16:02

Oh my gosh @bringthethunder I get that too! Then a couple of days of feeling ok until the proper pmt starts. I've been wondering about seeing a Dr about it, in case it could be a hormone imbalance.

Mandraki · 12/07/2019 20:17

Literally at the beginning of this week I convinced myself that my two closest friends at uni had gone off me completely and were avoiding me. Totally untrue but all down to PMT. I've just gone on the pill today for the first time in nearly 2 years in an effort to combat the horrific spotty, angry bitch I become once a month (also for that luxury D).
