Children being raised by electronics

My friend, who is a primary school teacher, said that she can spot the children who are being raised by YouTube/TV within a few minutes of meeting them. Do people really plonk their kids infront of the TV or on a device and leave them to it?!

Yes they do - a couple we know have 2 daughters. Age 7 and 4, both get home from school and literally sit for 2 hours every single night plugged into iPads on separate sofas. I find it bizarre

Electronics absolutely have their place for children, but it should be monitored and limited.

It feels like we are unusual in monitoring screen time, most of my kids friends are plugged in constantly with what seems like little oversight and on apps which are years too old. And on you tube channels which are vacuous commercialism with a good dose of dressing and behaving too old for their tender years. We limit enormously. No screens in the week. Go outside and play, read a book, play a game, do something rather than zone out.
We do allow it at weekends but for strictly limited periods. And their access is severely limited.
