AIBU to worry I may be starting too late?

OK, I am probably BU but, is 28 late to start TTC?

I don't mean culturally, I have lots of friends who don't have children yet (in fact, most of my friends are waiting until they are older) but I can't help thinking that most of my mum's generation had children by the time they were my age.

So, is 28 biologically old to try for a first baby?

Well, a one second google tells me the average age currently in the Uk is 30yo.

Rainycloudyday · 10/07/2019 22:04

Are you actually serious or is this a joke thread? Sorry to be blunt if you’re seriously concerned about this, but what an utterly ridiculous question!

Seeleyboo · 10/07/2019 22:04

I had my 1st at 22. 2nd at 24. 3rd at 25. 4th at 43 and 5th at 44. Love both times being a mum but preferred having them later in life and both were naturally conceived. It's whenever you're ready and nature will dictate no matter what age you are.

ShirleyPhallus · 10/07/2019 22:04

Do people that post this stuff realise how offensive it is?

Short answer - biologically, younger better
Financially & relationship wise - older fine

Annabk · 10/07/2019 22:04

28 is not biologically old.

MercifulHour · 10/07/2019 22:05

@KatnissMellark Grin?

I had my son at 39, OP, and it was the perfect time for me TTC.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 10/07/2019 22:06

you'll be fine

Ohyesiam · 10/07/2019 22:06

Had my first at 38, second at 41. Fell pregnant first month with first, and second month with second.
I realise I’m v v lucky.

BertieBotts · 10/07/2019 22:07

Only if you want ten children

MeanMrMustardSeed · 10/07/2019 22:08

Don’t be daft

OhDiddums · 10/07/2019 22:09

I don't think 28 is old to start ttc. But I think if you're in a good relationship and you have no doubts. As long as you know you can financially manage, even if it's at a push then the earlier you start ttc the better. I'm 27, nearly 28 and I started ttc at 25 and I still have no baby to show for it. I've had 3 mcs and have other fertility problems, I knew it might be a struggle but nothing prepared me for quite this long. I'm glad I started trying earlier because had I have waited I might have had to resign myself to never having children. You can never predict potential difficulties you might have ttc. But I think you should only do it if you're in the right place. There's no point panicking if you're not in a position to have a baby.

Do you know anyone over the age of 28 who's had a baby?

December2019 · 10/07/2019 22:10

I had my first 3 months before i turned 28 I had been ttc since I was 21 and I don't feel like an "older" mum 😂 I feel personally that 28 is the perfect age

JustMe81 · 10/07/2019 22:12

I had my son 2 days before I turned 36. I’m 20 weeks pregnant with my second at 38. Ideally for me It would have happened a few years earlier but my ttc journey took nearly 9 years. 28 is definitely not to old! Hmm

starzig · 10/07/2019 22:13

Don't think I know anyone under 28 to plan children. Heard of a couple people younger but they were accidents and they became single parents.

Biscusting · 10/07/2019 22:13

Very late if you were planning in making a 25 kids and counting tv series

Pannalash · 10/07/2019 22:14

Don’t be bloody ridiculous OP Hmm

PumpkinPieAlibi · 10/07/2019 22:15

@KatnissMellark - Grin

Hippopotas · 10/07/2019 22:16

God I’m doomed then I’m 33 and haven’t started ttc yet

SparklesandFlowers · 10/07/2019 22:18

FFS.

No. It's not too late. You are not old.

Blankspace4 · 10/07/2019 22:18

Are you a troll?

Mumof1andacat · 10/07/2019 22:20

I started to ttc at 27 had ds at 28. My friend had he dd at 37 (2 months before her 38th birthday) I worked with someone who had her 4th baby at 46!

Morgan12 · 10/07/2019 22:21

I don't think you are being ridiculous to ask this OP.

We all know fertility naturally declines with age and pregnancy risks increase.

I had my 1st at 27 so in my case it was fine.

ColaFreezePop · 10/07/2019 22:23

This clearly is a troll thread.
