...to ask if you lost weight (deliberately) in pregnancy and how?

First trimester alternated between ravenous hunger and vomiting. At 22 weeks I feel better and appetite normal! But - I feel huge (2nd baby) and I get sciatica. I want to lose fat and gain baby. Any advice?

I had HG and vomited 20 times a day, lost about a stone in the first 4 weeks - I couldn’t recommend it though Grin

Accidentally fell pregnant 3 months after a gastric sleeve and had hyperemesis...lost six stone. Definitely not recommended.
However would say that Del Monte ice lollies and fruit pastille lollies were a godsend. Lived on those and a yoghurt a day for 9 months. You could use them as a snack rather than anything else.

I had gestational diabetes so had to follow a low GI diet to keep blood sugar down. No sweets (which are generally my downfall!), low carb, high protein and gentle exercise from 28 weeks onward. I was the same weight at 40 weeks as I was at my booking in appt and about 1.5 stone lighter after baby was born. It was easier to do because I ‘had’ to though.

Slimming world

I didn’t lose, but gained 10lbs with DS1 and 12lbs with DS2. Honestly I just watched what I ate a little better. I didn’t start binging on cake, and I figured if I ate a family bag of Doritos that would be the nutrition going to the baby. Now I’m done I’m eating cake and mainlining crisps again, but while I was pregnant I just tried to be a bit more mindful.

Good luck.

switswoo81 · 10/07/2019 22:22

Same as @Piffpaffpoff gd. Healthiest diet I was ever on. Left hospital in my jeans .

TovaGoldCoin · 10/07/2019 22:38

You shouldn't be attempting to lose weight during pregnancy. Eat your normal diet. I had HG through all my pregnancies, and was a malnourished wreck

NCforthis2019 · 10/07/2019 22:42

I had HG for over 7 months - constant vomiting, I ate half a sausage a day. I weighed 8 stone at 6 months pregnant. I also lost one of my twins - I can’t help but think it’s because my body just could sustain two because I was so sick - dont worry about losing weight while you’re pregnant please.

Kel801 · 10/07/2019 22:48

I lost doing Slimming world x

everythingthelighttouches · 10/07/2019 22:54

Unless you have been advised to lose weight by your obstetrician or midwife, please don't try to while pregnant.

Piffpaffpoff · 10/07/2019 23:06

@switswoo81 same here! Kept it off then did the same with baby no 2. I’d have been a size zero if I’d had another 2 or 3🤣

thenightsky · 10/07/2019 23:13

I ate like a pig for the first three months as having a full tummy was the only time I didn't feel sick.

Next 4 months I carried on eating as it had become a habit.

Then I realised I was enormous, my knees hurt, I had sciatica and generally freaked out a bit. Cut out crappy food, sugar, biscuits and other general rubbish and lost 10lb in the last 2 months.

ahumanfemale · 10/07/2019 23:22

I lost weight the first month on bedrest due to stress. I ate like a pig the second and third months though so got over that problem.

Now 6 years later I'm still wondering when "active life with children" will make the "baby weight melt off"! 😂

stopgap · 10/07/2019 23:23

Also the same as @piffpaffpoff. I started off at 8.5 stone and only gained a stone as I was on a strict low-carb diet and very quickly thereafter insulin, as I couldn’t control the gestational diabetes through diet alone.

DeadDoorpost · 10/07/2019 23:27

Hyperemesis 🤷🏻‍♀️ this pregnancy I've only gained 8lbs instead of 22 or whatever is the average. I've just been eating more fruit and drinking more. And being sick...

itscallednickingbentcoppers · 11/07/2019 00:03

I had GD and I gained a stone and then lost 3 after the birth. Just following the nhs GD diet...low GI and low sugar.

Tallgreenbottle · 11/07/2019 00:12

Gallstones 👌

TheInventorofToasterStreudel · 11/07/2019 07:18

So low GI sounds like the way forward!

Had hyperemesis and GD from 10 weeks. I ate to make sure that my baby would be okay and worried myself a lot over it though. Would’ve loved a McDonalds!
