Baby reins

AIBU for going back to using reins on my very boisterous 3.5yo, she refuses to hold hands yet bolts away without warning?

Mums who do use reins what style do you use, the wrist strap, backpack or a traditional harness?

This thread is a bit old now, so if you have landed here looking for recommendations, we have recently updated our guide to the best toddler reins with products tried, tested and recommended by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful.

Hospital staff said they had seen so many of the exact same injuries its heartbreaking

Oh my goodness, I'm now never going to get a wrist one thank you for this post OP. I didn't realise how dangerous they could be but it makes sense, I don't know how I didn't realise before.

dinoslippers · 09/07/2019 22:28

Shit, didn't realise how dangerous the wrist ones were either. But I can see why.

Will be binning ours now and getting a spare harness.

Your poor DS @Predicter Sad

That's awful, I've sometimes wondered what happens if the child falls and can't put their hand out.

It does seem like the old style baby harness type are the safest, I think I'll just replace ours with an other harness set.

Just for balance I've seen injuries where a child has ended up in hospital from being pulled along by the parents' just holding hands- rule of thumb should be to imagine the child has no hands and only pick up from under the arms.

I ways use traditional reins.

Shoemum · 10/07/2019 16:42

At what age did you all stop using them, my 3.5yo is still in the baby style harness and I can see me using it for a while yet.
