To think there is a grave in my garden?

NC for this as the pics are outing.

Moved in to my house in April and it has what I thought is a really ugly raised bed in the garden. Now the summer has arrived I've realised it gets no sunshine on it at all so isn't a raised bed after all.

DD and I were pottering our there this afternoon and we came across this plaque on the raised bed.

WTF.

Is it a coincidence or is it a grave?!

Utterly and shamelessly placemarking.

Toddlerteaplease · 09/07/2019 23:18

I knew someone who had their husband legally buried in her back garden. As PP's have said. It will be on the deeds to the house.

Okyah · 09/07/2019 23:24

It’s Harold in there with his dog obviously.

SucksToBeYouHun · 09/07/2019 23:24

You're braver than me OP 😱😱

pigsDOfly · 09/07/2019 23:28

I would imagine having someone buried in the garden would make it quite difficult to sell the house at some later date.

Bloody weird thing to do imo.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 09/07/2019 23:29

I'd say memorial garden over grave as well. As much as it's legal it's still unlikely

caringcarer · 09/07/2019 23:29

If you know the surname of the lady that lived there before you, try looking on free births deaths and marriages for a death certificate. If you have surname and county died in it is not hard. I would definitely do this before digging. We have a btl with a dog grave in it. Just says Jim on a little headstone so I asked the neighbours and all said old mans terrier dog. We have left it well alone. It is in bottom corner of garden so out of the way.

FabulousGuineaPig · 09/07/2019 23:29

I think you should feel privileged to be the custodian of this memorial. Don't be creeped by it. Take care of it for them.

HappyLoneParentDay · 09/07/2019 23:34

It'll just be where the ashes were spread

blueberrymuffin88 · 09/07/2019 23:34

Oh my goodness I'm so intrigued! I don't think it is a grave but I do hope you find out a bit more information about the memorial stone. Please keep us updated! 🙂

SoupDragon · 09/07/2019 23:37

It's not a grave. It's completely the wrong proportions.

It's most likely just a Hellgate.

tolerable · 09/07/2019 23:42

no! i thot you meant a dog.fuckin what is that????????????????????????????????????????????????????/

tolerable · 09/07/2019 23:44

soupdragon-i love you.i am folded in two x

CheerfulPotato · 09/07/2019 23:47

Not placemarking at all 😁

tomatostottie · 09/07/2019 23:48

I'd say memorial garden over grave as well.

Exactly. Harold and his dog are buried underneath and the previous owner created a memorial garden on top of it.

Wink
Rosielily · 09/07/2019 23:49

@CheerfulPotato I am! 👻

Screamanger · 09/07/2019 23:50

We are in the US, at the back of our garden there is a mini grave yard of 5 graves complete with tombstones from the people who originally settled here. I have plans to expand it so we can be buried here.

MolyHolyGuacamole · 09/07/2019 23:59

Love this story. Looking forward to the update OP! #WhoIsHarold

Ayedresses · 10/07/2019 00:05

i'm guessing ashes were scattered there... not like that would put my mind to rest.

ChristmasArmadillo · 10/07/2019 00:09

I have one of these (well, similar.) My son is definitely not there, he’s in a proper cemetery! Just a bush I planted in his memory.

Scarecrow2016 · 10/07/2019 00:13

Fabulousguineapig. I agree. Take care of it. Its not creepy. Its remembering someone or something that was loved.

Barmaid101 · 10/07/2019 00:14

You could maybe look at previous census records for the property might help with narrowing down identities for you to do some research!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 10/07/2019 00:16

This like taking the "what's in my locked cellar" threads and dialling it up to 11.

Dig!! Now!!

MuddyMoose · 10/07/2019 00:24

Can't wait to hear updates on this.

DeputyDawwwwg · 10/07/2019 00:31

Inform the police...they might dig it up for free!
