To think there is a grave in my garden?

NC for this as the pics are outing.

Moved in to my house in April and it has what I thought is a really ugly raised bed in the garden. Now the summer has arrived I've realised it gets no sunshine on it at all so isn't a raised bed after all.

DD and I were pottering our there this afternoon and we came across this plaque on the raised bed.

WTF.

Is it a coincidence or is it a grave?!

Pullyers · 09/07/2019 20:10

Memory garden I expect.

Betsy86 · 09/07/2019 20:10

Not ashamed to placemark as im fascinated and need to know!

TopBitchoftheWitches · 09/07/2019 20:12

No idea but marking !

Lovemusic33 · 09/07/2019 20:12

I’m guessing it’s a memorial garden, I have a small garden for my dog that I lost, it also has a plaque but my dog isn’t buried their.

LucyAutumn · 09/07/2019 20:13

Really hope it's just a memorial plaque Confused

ilikepurple · 09/07/2019 20:16

I have a similar plaque in my garden for my Dad. He's (his ashes) not in my garden but I planted a plant and put a plaque there as a memory.

ilikepurple · 09/07/2019 20:16

....I also have a spare house key under the plaque Wink

JaneyJimplin · 09/07/2019 20:17

Place mark Smile

Marilynmansonsthermos · 09/07/2019 20:17

Ugh op do you really dare to dig it up yourself? You could find something horrific, could you not hire a gardener in to do it?

Loveislandaddict · 09/07/2019 20:19

Can you get someone to scan the plot for regards? Is there a local archeological society who may have metal detector or other scanners that can survey/x-Ray the land?

dontdoxmeeither · 09/07/2019 20:24

I'd do more research before digging

MyKingdomforaNameChange · 09/07/2019 20:24

My mum's holiday cottage has a grave in the garden. Totally legal if you get the right permissions.

coffeeforone · 09/07/2019 20:24

Place marking!

IsItATomb · 09/07/2019 20:26

@MyKingdomforaNameChange really! What does it look like? Is it as ugly as this?

I'm sure my grandad has a metal detector. I'll see if he'll let me use it and give it a try!

GoFiguire · 09/07/2019 20:29

Dig it up!

Remoteisland · 09/07/2019 20:29

Ashes?

Summertimeatthebeach · 09/07/2019 20:30

Google your address. I found out lots about our house!

Wobblywibblywoo · 09/07/2019 20:31

It maybe where they scattered ashes

carly2803 · 09/07/2019 20:33

ohhhh placemarking!!

Alabasterangel6 · 09/07/2019 20:34

Things I would do:

If it’s a son then he would probably have had the same surname as her. That’s google fodder for a start.

To find out his first name you can search for funeral announcements or death notices in the paper for her death. Chances are they will say ‘Mother of X and the late Y’ for example. Having his first and surname is even more google fodder. You may then find a funeral notice for him!

I suspect it’s a memorial corner. My Neighbours have almost identical with a rose for their late DD. She is buried in the cemetery but the rose is something to remember her by at home and on her birthday they put a little candle in a jar under it.

bobstersmum · 09/07/2019 20:36

It looks like a raised bed to me..

Goodnightchristopherrobin · 09/07/2019 20:36

Oh my goodness! Shock

RuggerHug · 09/07/2019 20:36

Ask the neighbour before you dig!!!!
