To think there is a grave in my garden?

NC for this as the pics are outing.

Moved in to my house in April and it has what I thought is a really ugly raised bed in the garden. Now the summer has arrived I've realised it gets no sunshine on it at all so isn't a raised bed after all.

DD and I were pottering our there this afternoon and we came across this plaque on the raised bed.

WTF.

Is it a coincidence or is it a grave?!

This is fascinating

Paperyfish · 09/07/2019 19:51

If some one had a pregnancy loss they might have wanted to bury the Remains at home? Would explain the plaque. Or sprinkle ashes even? I don’t think it really matters though. I’m sure they won’t bother you!

Thefemalekeithrichards · 09/07/2019 19:52

@SushiGo
Far from being a killjoy Sushi I think you have injected some joy 😄

EdWinchester · 09/07/2019 19:52

Maybe just cremated remains?

IsItATomb · 09/07/2019 19:54

Thank you Sushi!!

I'll be digging it up regardless. It's seriously ugly!

Shamelessly place marking! Grin

ReanimatedSGB · 09/07/2019 19:55

Might be a pet grave, so if you find a few bones, don't panic immediately - though the murder squad will come out and have a look, you will all feel a bit silly if it's a rotweiiler's grave.

Fluffybread · 09/07/2019 19:56

so long as you’re not burying someone that shouldn’t be dead

@bebeboeuf that is a very good point haha!

apostropheuse · 09/07/2019 19:57

If there is a body buried there I don't think you're allowed to just dig up the grave. You would need permission for an exhumation .

SureTry · 09/07/2019 19:57

I'm not place marking at all! 🤔

ShirleyPhallus · 09/07/2019 19:57

What happens if it comes over all Jumanji, and you awake some spirits and become haunted for all of eternity?

TitsInAbsentia · 09/07/2019 19:57

I love a good mystery!
If it is just a raised flower bed it's a huge one, you'd have to lean over a fair bit to get to the middle, but I think it's the more likely solution - the size of it is due to the size of the concrete slabs they had maybe?

Laiste · 09/07/2019 19:59

In loving memory of a special son.

Oh it might be a pregnancy loss. A little grave with flowers all over it originally? That's not creepy.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 09/07/2019 19:59

Keep us posted.

Itwouldtakemuchmorethanthis · 09/07/2019 19:59

You can’t dig someone up to landscape a garden Shock. They were there first.

SushiGo · 09/07/2019 19:59

That's okay @isitatomb!

Who knew grave spotting would become my specialist skill?! Re:ashes, while they are a lot harder to spot from above I would still expect a sunken patch, and as with full burials if ashes had been interred they should be on the deeds.

Digging it all up should be completely fine no surprises. Although it looks like it will be hard work. Good luck!

Fluffybread · 09/07/2019 19:59

I wonder if you could contact the previous owners and tell them they'd left memorial plaque behind, and would they like it. They then might volunteer some more information

Laiste · 09/07/2019 19:59

Yes or cremated remains scattered there?

chilledteacher · 09/07/2019 20:00

Shamelessly placemarking...

dentydown · 09/07/2019 20:02

I wonder if it’s ashes in a casket. My friend has a memorial garden for her partner. She has those types of stones there, plus flowers etc.

OhMsBeliever · 09/07/2019 20:02

Ooh it's intriguing. I look forward to reading about the zombie apocalypse you unleash. Grin

justasking111 · 09/07/2019 20:03

a mystery to be sure. Ashes were scattered on the green just over our wall because the old man used to sit there enjoying a view over the hills.

BMW6 · 09/07/2019 20:03

Maybe a garden for cremated remains?

Lots of my Mum is in a huge pot in my garden growing a rosebush.

EllebellyBeeblebrox · 09/07/2019 20:03

This has made me think, when it's my time to go I'd like to be laid to rest in my garden. I love it there and have very happy memories in it, plus as a bonus can creep out or mystify future home owners

Sallyseagull · 09/07/2019 20:07

I imagine it's a memory garden and nothing sinister.
