AIBU in thinking if you have a Council house and the Council are modernising it you shouldn't really moan about it?!

So I'm in B&M in the queue listening to a customer moan on and on about how the Council have only given her 3 weeks notice that she is getting a new kitchen and bathroom fitted and this is totally unacceptable and how it's going to disrupt her life! Checkout lady then moans that she contacted her Housing Association to find out she's not entitled to a new bathroom for some time yet. AIBU to think some people feel so entitled? What about the people (me) who own their own home and cant currently ever imagine having the money to have a new kitchen and bathroom fitted?! Oh, and the loft was being insulated also!

Our windows are open as are his It is July And he lives directly underneath us

But we can smell it in the winter too. In the airing cupboard and the hall cupboard and the bathroom.

Could also smell the winter spice scented candle they lit to cover up the smell last December.

Burning candles while they are high.

Im in a flat Rachel.

HelenaDove · 12/07/2019 16:41

that was the night before a little girl came to stay

zsazsajuju · 12/07/2019 17:59

@TheQueef council housing is subsidised (as it should be). That’s a fact. I’m not a “nugget”. Which is another fact. Even if particular councils make a yearly profit from their housing stock, that stock was built by government grants in the first place. And they should be using any profits to build more not gifting them to people who are already well housed as right to buy subsidies (which are reducing our housing stock).

@HelenaDove that sounds like an absolutely extraordinary level of smoke - weed smoke so intense it hurts your eyes and exacerbates your partners copd. Just from an open window in a upstairs flat when people are smoking in a downstairs flat? Are you sure the flat isn’t on fire?

HelenaDove · 12/07/2019 18:14

The fact that you can take the piss and do it in such a crass way shows you up for what you are.

Dont be such an arse.

He is directly underneath us. Are you able to comprehend this? Am i not typing this right.

We do now have an air conditioning unit which helps just a little but not much. It was bought in late Feb in case we had another big heatwave like last year.

HelenaDove · 12/07/2019 18:15

Do you smoke it @zsazsajuju

HelenaDove · 12/07/2019 18:20

Ah i see its a different story when it comes to you and yours I was much closer to the truth when i said NIMBY than a thought.

This is awful op. My gran waged a campaign to have the people she saw as trouble makers removed from her area. She started a neighborhood watch and made their lives very difficult (if they wanted to sell drugs etc) and campaigned for local amenities like a playpark. I was really worried for her but she managed to get the community on board and improve the area. All the types on this thread with ghastly things to say to you would never live in that sort of area in a million years. It’s a luxury to be able to sneer at others who don’t want people with “complex” needs next door"

HelenaDove · 12/07/2019 18:29

Can you please explain why its one rule for your gran and another for me?

CitadelsofScience · 12/07/2019 18:33

HelenaDove I've not read it yet but have a provisional 👊 fist bump.

HelenaDove · 12/07/2019 18:37

And i stand by what i posted on that thread from last year
Which was this.

Lets apply some critical thinking. Why are housing associations doing this now In our case we have had decent neighbours for such a long time Why change NOW? Because when it comes to bulldozing these estates for regeneration and building luxury homes there will be no public or media support or sympathy for those who live on the housing estates including those of us who have done nothing wrong.

Its genius Its clever................and its deliberate.

HelenaDove · 12/07/2019 18:41
back at ya @CitadelsofScience

Except that the HA own the properties but have to house whoever the council nominates. The HA doesn't want their estates to become sink estates either. There's no conspiracy theory just badly behaved people.

TheQueef · 12/07/2019 19:17

The central government loaned for council housing, that's why the first ten years there is no RTB, so the loan is paid back.
Sorry for calling you a nugget Zsa. Smile

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 12/07/2019 23:05

I’m hugely grateful for my council flat. And grateful for the grant I got for flooring when I first moved in, and the disabled adaptations to my bathroom. But when they replaced all the roofs in my street, took all the tiles off our block, and then left it for two weeks in the rain so that we all had a heap of damage, I’m afraid I did have a moan about it. So you can be grateful overall, but still complain about inconvenience. It’s only natural.

HelenaDove · 13/07/2019 02:30

A major problem is the lack of adapted housing for disabled people

TeamUnicorn · 13/07/2019 07:56

Helena I will agree with you there, especially family housing. It is an ongoing difficulty. A lot of the bungalow stock is not wheelchair adapted and so HA's end up doing the best they can. The DFG limit is woefully too low especially in the South.

HelenaDove · 13/07/2019 13:43

Ive heard that Habinteg Housing Association are really good in that respect

TeamUnicorn · 13/07/2019 18:22

Habinteg are very good and are pretty much at the forefront for accessible homes. Publish a lot of best practice though it is not always followed.

CitadelsofScience · 14/07/2019 18:16

Blimey what a delight that woman is in that article Helena , she's going to be on Angry People in Local Newspapers soon with her compo face and repeated use of 'council estate', and she'll be awarded extra points for getting her disability in there but unless I've missed it, ithasnt stated she's registered disabled 😂

zsazsajuju · 14/07/2019 18:35

@HelenaDove my gran fought against violent heroin dealers. Not people smoking weed in their own home. It’s really a bit offensive that you would bring her up. I cannot believe that weed smoke or a scented candle in a flat below, would have a strong enough smell to make your eyes hurt or exacerbate copd. You sound like a bit of a nightmare neighbour tbh. Why not try to live and let live.

TeamUnicorn · 14/07/2019 18:40

I read that article the other day, shocking really, the stigma is plain to see.

HelenaDove · 14/07/2019 18:58

@zsazsajuju there was a police raid on this area last Christmas due to drugs. the same shit goes on here.

You didnt it was heroin in your original post last year

And i havent had an answer to my question Why is it one rule for your gran and another for me?

Is she a home owner?

HelenaDove · 14/07/2019 18:59

"why not try to live and let live"

You better tell Social Services that not me.
