AIBU to threaten to report this company to Trading Standards

Hi guys, I am posting in AIBU for the traffic.

My parents (both in their 70's)had all their windows replaced on their house at an expense of several thousand ponds in September 2017.

Ever since the windows were first fitted, one of the bedroom windows has never closed & my parents have contacted the window company straight & away numerous times since, for them to come round & sort out the window. The window company continually makes excuses & nothing ever happens.

They are always fobbed off & after all this time, you can imagine they are completely fed up up & don't know what else to do.

AIBU telling my parents to contact the window people one more time & to threaten them with contacting Trading Standards?

Any advice would be very much appreciated Smile

Trading standards don’t deal with this sort of thing anymore.
Find out if they are a member of FENSA or a similar organisation. They should be your first point of call.
Also use social media to contact them so that everyone else can see.

I would have thought it would have been right up the alley of Trading Standards but you learn something new everyday.

Have you checked out this site:
www.tradingstandards.uk/consumers

You could consider contacting BBC Watchdog either.

Thank you for that @Smileyaxolotl1 & @WhatchaMaCalllit I will check both of these out.

It really has been a case of 'We have got your money & don't care!!!

If they refuse to do the work, get a quote from another reputable business to do it and take them to the small claims court for the amount

If contact has been by phone up to now, I would write a letter and send it recorded delivery so you can prove they have been contacted.

Smileyaxolotl1 · 08/07/2019 16:10

I agree with the recorded delivery.
It isn’t trading standards as that is more for scams etc and cannot be approached by the public. It’s a division of citizens advice who give you help now.

Small claims is an often and often just the threat is enough to get them to sort it.
In my case I had to file the claim and it got as far as bailiffs and a court date but the work was eventually done.

Thank you so much everyone, it really is very much appreciated.

I think that my parents are going to go for the recorded delivery letter & threat of the double glazing ombudsman (yes there really is such a thing!)

Big Hugs lovely ladies Grin
